We’re pumped to share that Small Batch Standard will be rocking two awesome brewer conferences this upcoming weekend! 🍺 On Saturday, July 27, come hang with our Founder and Principal, Chris Farmand, at the Texas Brewery Roundup. Chris will be dropping some serious knowledge bombs on the taproom. 💸 On Tuesday, July 30, catch Brewery Consultant Julia Grubbs at the Florida Brewers Conference. Julia’s got the inside scoop on managing a brewery’s finances in 2024 and how to keeping the cash flowing! As a remote agency, we love getting out to connect with the amazing craft community. These in-person events are where the magic happens, and we look forward to many more this year! Check out our events page to see where we’ll be next: https://lnkd.in/eWGNqjSJ.

End-of-Year Goals: Pushing Boundaries at Backswing Brewing As we approach the end of the year, we're setting our sights higher and pushing boundaries here at Backswing Brewing. 🍻 This year has been full of challenges and growth, and we’re excited to finish strong. Our goals for the last few months are simple yet bold: 1. Expand Community Reach: We want to continue connecting with our community, building partnerships with more local events, and making Backswing Brewing a household name for anyone who loves doing beer differently. 2. Get More Taps in Local Spots: Our focus is on bringing our craft beer to more bars and restaurants around the state of Nebraska. We have some hefty goals for expanding our presence, and we are confident that, with the help of the Johnson Brothers team, those goals will be achieved. 3. Celebrate Every Win: From launching new campaigns to building lasting connections, we aim to celebrate every achievement with the people who helped make it possible: our amazing team, partners, and all of you who have supported us. These goals are all about growth, community, and celebrating our unique approach to the industry. After meeting with the Johnson Brothers leadership team this past week (Bill Brammeier, Joe O'Connor, and Jarrod Straw) we are even more confident that these goals are achievable. We’re looking forward to what’s ahead for the rest of this year, and what 2025 has in store for Backswing Brewing Co.. If you're interested in partnering with us or bringing Backswing to your favorite watering hole or restaurant, let's connect! #CraftBeer #DoBeerDifferently #EndOfYearGoals #SupportLocalBreweries #BackswingBrewing #CommunityMatters #NECraftBeer #ForABetterRoundofBeer

Author & Historian Specializing in the 1840s-1940s and 1850s-1924 History of Adjunct Lager Beer in the United States and Germany, Respectively
Updated Profile Photograph: A Paul Harvey Explanation In conjunction with the post announcing the upcoming five-volume series The Inspiring Histories and Legacies of American Lager Beer, there was one other piece of history that needed to be addressed - the profile photograph I used when first opening my LinkedIn account back in 2013ish. There up until the past week, this photograph traced back to the summer of 2012. Fast forward to the past week, it was time to replace it with a more representative image reflecting one's transition in life from their mid-50s to knocking on the door of being 70! The new photograph though has everything to do with the upcoming series. It was taken on October 21, 2023 while sitting on a rocking chair on the front porch of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Why there? Well it was part of a personal bucket list (now checked off, with many, many more to go) as on August 3, 1908, one of the most fascinating exchanges pertinent to the survival of American adjunct lager beer took place (IMO of course), namely: Dr. Robert Wahl: "The all-malt beer has become, in the mind of the Brewers' Committee, almost extinct in America. The option of the Brewers' Committee was "let these beers rest in pleace". "Why resurrect them?" To which a Pure Food Commissioner replied: "Yet let us erect a tombstone and inscribe on it the epitaph: Hic jacet cerevisia malti." To be able to stand in the same room, and sit on a rocker on the same porch as that day from 115 years ago, was both humbling and inspiring. While a far more detailed contextual account awaits Volume 4 (1874-1918): The Inspiring Defense of America's Beer, the attachment to this post is a photograph depicting one Dr. Harvey Wiley and Lucius Moody Tolman taken at the same location as the updated profile picture. As to who the heck is Paul Harvey and why I invoked him in this post (likely just about everyone under the age of 50), there's always Google!

The Co-BREW-nity needs a kick in the proverbial pants. (Not supporting any actual violence.) If you want your brewery, etc. to thrive online, you simply must get out the shovel and start digging. Go beyond the obvious and share the stories that make your brewery special. Don’t just tell people you have great beer—show them why they should care. - Mention how often you need to change kegs because people can’t get enough of your latest brew. It’s a testament to the quality and popularity of what you’re serving. - Share photos of happy patrons enjoying a cold one on the patio. Capture the smiles, the laughter, the atmosphere that makes your space come alive. - Highlight your friendly and knowledgeable staff. When people see the genuine passion of your team, they know good people are behind the bar. - Show off packed events, buzzing with energy, and prove that your brewery isn’t just another spot to grab a drink—it’s a local favorite that brings the community together. - Talk about the expertise of your brewers and the care that goes into every batch. When your audience knows the story behind the craft, they’ll appreciate the quality even more. I call this show and/don't tell. It's a dangerous combination of showing off what is so great about your beer, your people, and your brewery while also defining the literal reasons people come to see you. Start sharing more than just what’s on tap and in the kegs; share what makes your brewery worth the visit. By showing me why others drink your beer and enjoy your space, you are telling me why I should too. Cheers.

Strong writing can entice people to shrug at low production value.
Cape May is a state of mind but also a place and it’s a beer, too. This is from a campaign made with friends at Canales & Co. currently storming the beaches of the Jersey Shore. It's for fans of sunny days, cold beers and extended run-on sentences.
