Hot topic: What do you think? I think the better AI gets, the more detailed prelim diagnosis via chats can get. AI can get better the more Vets and the vet profession are willing to influence how it is used in the realms of vet med. How it influences individual vets is very much up to how much they are willing to make use of it. When the mindset is that it makes their work harder, it will do that. When the mindset is that it gives dangerous information to people, that is what they will see and respond to. I think it’s up to the humans – vets, and staff – to make use of the lighter workload by understanding how AI works. If vets know how to use it and what the pitfalls are, they can streamline the questions they ask because of what owners have researched and understood. And they can stop wasting time being annoyed at owners who were interested in finding out answers.
Discussion: How Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) Affect Veterinarians?

Like many, I want to see LLMs improve human and veterinary healthcare efficiencies. My interpretation of this publication is that “we are getting there, but not there yet”. Founders: keep pushing. Early Adopters: keep training and providing feedback. A quote from the conclusion section: “These hallucinations, when generated content deviates from the input, pose significant risks in leading to misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatments.” Links to publication and article provide below. Please feel free to correct my statement “not there yet”. https://lnkd.in/dciscpkB https://lnkd.in/dne_Y2_d

Is #AI taking over human oriented tasks? NO, unless we fail to realise the importance of the human element of #AI to drive innovation. If AI tools aren't embraced, trusted or integrated into workflows effectively, human potential remains unrealized. Read this interesting article, how #AI is used to drive innovation and shorten time to market (not everything is #GenAI). Enjoy!

The RCVS have published the report on their round table AI event that I was invited to participate in earlier this year. Around 100 industry leaders gathered at the Institute of Engineering and Technology in London to discuss the transformative potential of #artificialintelligence in #veterinarymedicine. This event highlighted AI’s promise in enhancing diagnostics, treatment, and education while addressing the challenges of ethical use and regulation. Key takeaways: AI in Practice: From improving diagnostic accuracy to optimising treatment plans, AI is poised to revolutionise clinical workflows. Education & Training: Emphasis on integrating AI into veterinary education to prepare the next generation of professionals. Ethical and Regulatory Challenges: Ensuring responsible AI use through clear guidelines and maintaining a “human in the loop” for critical decision-making. The event underscored the importance of collaboration between technology providers, educators, and veterinary professionals to ensure AI is harnessed effectively, safeguarding both animal welfare and public trust. If you are curious about AI and how you might be able to use it in veterinary medicine, or you're a health tech company please get in touch to talk about how I might be able to help you. #VeterinaryAI #AnimalHealth #FutureOfVetMed #RCVS https://lnkd.in/g6niwY_x

The four most exciting applications for natural language AI in vet med today. Using AI effectively across these areas will change veterinary medicine: 👉Automated record-keeping and documentation 👉Automated administrative actions 👉Easily search medical records and discover health trends 👉 Operate on data as though it had a unified coding system. Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) with LLMs is the key to making all of this happen today. We can’t just feed ChatGPT and Claude great prompts. We should be giving them relevant context upfront (i.e., RAG) so that the answers are better, and the AI knows enough to take on additional tasks.

Sometimes #AI can help in ways we've never imagined. No one likes subjecting animals to scientific testing, but ensuring drug safety is important. But here’s AI, the game-changer we've been waiting for. AI systems like #ChatGPT are improving research by sifting through decades of #data, eliminating unnecessary tests, and enhancing accuracy. Imagine pressing a button and getting a preliminary toxicity assessment for new chemicals—it's becoming a reality! Prof. Thomas Hartung from The Johns Hopkins University highlights AI’s leap forward in power and accuracy. Projects like AnimalGAN and Virtual Second Species are leading the charge, aiming to replace animal testing with virtual models. The future of ethical science is close, but full regulatory acceptance will take time. https://lnkd.in/gA6GcFQv #AI #EthicalScience #Innovation #AnimalTesting

3moWell said! I applaud how you've managed the last 10% too, including the full clip for reference is a solid workaround/doublecheck! We're currently developing a similar workflow at Vetology.net and Vetology.ai focused on automating radiologist workflows. Like you, we believe that if we can harness this new technology to minimize the manual aspects of veterinary care, we can create more opportunities to focus on crucial tasks such as communicating with pet parents, diagnosing conditions, and delivering the care our pets need. Here's to intuitive, thoughtfully developed AIs and the teams behind them! Thank you for sharing the journey!
