Another common trap is that you set yourself on a critical path that makes managers think you are essential to the current role, thereby missing new projects or promotions Best advice I got from my skip level was to free up yourself by training others to replicate what you do best.
The Hidden Trap of Being a Top Performer: Why Giving 110% Can Backfire In the early years of my career, I vividly recall moments of frustration with my management. Despite feeling like I had given my all to the job, I couldn't shake the sense that I wasn't getting what I deserved. I believed that rewards should have come more swiftly, given the immense effort I put into work and the consistent praise for my performance. It wasn't until I became a manager that I truly understood the other side of the equation. Every few years, I found myself sitting across from a top performer who had reached their breaking point, exasperated with both me and the company for seemingly failing to recognize their efforts. Initially, I was taken aback; how could one of our brightest stars be so disillusioned? It was a humbling realization that I had fallen short in supporting my best talent. This struggle is likely familiar to top performers at any company. On the surface, they are hailed as heroes, driving remarkable impact and garnering widespread recognition within the organization. Yet, during critical junctures such as promotions, organizational restructuring, or project allocations, they may feel shortchanged by decisions and find themselves consumed by anger towards their managers and the company, sometimes even taking drastic steps like rage quitting or leaving deep emotional scars on their superiors. If you've ever found yourself in this position, or are currently grappling with these emotions, it's essential to understand the underlying dynamics at play. As I discussed in my recent Burnout episode of the Skip Podcast (https://lnkd.in/gJ-zWfgB), when you pour everything into your work, you inevitably set yourself up for disappointment. An imbalanced work-life relationship is a ticking time bomb. Each time you prioritize work over precious moments with family, friends, personal well-being, and cherished hobbies, you make a significant sacrifice. The more frequently this occurs, the higher your expectations grow for your work to yield ever-increasing rewards. However, companies operate within constraints: pay bands, organizational structures, and the need to foster growth and impact among all employees. When these limitations become apparent, you may find yourself unraveling, agonizing over the missed opportunities and personal sacrifices made in the name of work. Recognizing this pattern is the first step towards reframing your perspective. Giving 110% to your company, while admirable, can ultimately be counterproductive. This doesn't mean you should abandon your strong work ethic or stop prioritizing your job. Rather, it's about creating boundaries and avoiding investing so much of yourself that you end up resenting your own dedication. The disappointment that follows is virtually guaranteed, and you risk unnecessarily burning bridges along the way. #TopPerformers #CareerGrowth #Burnout #LeadershipLessons

Amazing stuff! It’s rewarding to watch your life’s work being utilised by customers to save our future
We are proud of the work the Siemens eMobility team has done to help the United States Postal Service begin decarbonizing their mail delivery fleet. Here is some footage of the USPS showing off its first batch of new Siemens EV chargers and electric vehicles in Atlanta, where they debuted their first EV charging stations. This is the first key step in the Postal Service’s plan to put together one of the nation’s biggest EV fleets, made up of more than 66,000 delivery vehicles. Siemens is happy to support the USPS on their electrification journey. #EV #TechnologyToTransformTheEveryday https://lnkd.in/gdkYcdUa
