While we recently avoided a government shutdown, this was only a temporary solution for 45 days, as the threat of a shutdown appears to loom over Congress every year. Financial advisors and RIAs may be wondering about the direct impacts of this on their business. Our President of Advisory Services and Chief Legal Officer, John Cataldo, says if the shutdown were to occur it should only have a minimal effect on the day-to-day business for most RIAs. “That simply hits the pause button, and those things restart again. With a single login per registrant and no multi-factor authentication, the EDGAR system has been ripe for hacking and market manipulation (see the charges brought against Russian and American hackers/traders from 2019). These changes are a real improvement.
