⌨ Effective Communication Tip! Adding a little context can make a big difference when you ask for something through Slack or Teams. 📝✨ Why? Understanding the 'why' behind your request helps the receiver provide the most accurate and relevant information you need. You'll find that your added context will remove an unnecessary back-and-forth. (See what I did there?) So, the next time you type out a request, try this: At the end of your message, explain why this information is essential to you or how it ties into your larger goals. This small step clarifies your needs and shows that you respect the person's time and expertise.

A Day Communicating About Communication Today was our team retreat, and the theme was "communication." It's amazing how having too many modes of communication can actually become a problem. Everyone has their preferences, and each platform has its pros and cons. Do you prefer Outlook, Teams chat, calls, texts, EPIC inbasket, in-person communication, or MyChart? Despite our hard efforts to optimize a one-size-fits-all solution, we quickly realized it's much like the five love languages. Everyone has their own way of expressing and receiving communication, and that's okay. More importantly, good communication requires good self-awareness and perhaps better awareness of others. It was great to talk and learn about this as a team. One of my realizations, as we discussed MyChart onboarding to improve provider-to-patient communication, was that many 13-year-olds simply don't use email, yet it's required to set up an account. This was a good reminder to include the people impacted when trying to find sustainable solutions that work for everyone.
