Yesterday our CEO Helen Graney spoke with the Founder & MD of Propel, Roger Christie for the latest Global Women in Public Relations “Let’s Talk about” webinar series. They discussed the importance of establishing an authentic professional profile online by keeping your purpose and audience in mind. Helen's key takeaways were: 1. Take a beat and think about what aligns with your purpose. 2. Think about what you want to get out of it and who you’d like to engage. 3. Consider how you can use the algorithm to help you get the most out of LinkedIn instead of throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. What else do you think is important to consider when curating your digital reputation? 🤔 #WeberShandwickAustralia #DigitalReputation #ThoughtLeadership #GWPR

The Stories We Tell Ourselves Yesterday I met with some of the Fearless Foodie community. We talked about how the stories we tell ourselves shape our experiences and sometimes even hold us back. When you’re on your own, it’s easy to get caught in your own narrative: replaying the same challenges or limitations over and over without ever finding a new way to look at them. But when you are part of a community, your tribe of like-minded individuals, something remarkable happens. The lens shifts. Others offer a new perspective. They challenge you, inspire you, and remind you of possibilities you might not have seen alone. And suddenly, you start to see opportunities instead of constraints. That’s one of the greatest benefits of being part of a community of women who lift each other up: the connections that help unlock challenges and transform the stories we tell ourselves. What story are you telling yourself today? And, more importantly, who is helping bring a new perspective to your story? Rehema Isa, spoke about the power of story telling, As women, we need to use and amplify our voices to telly our stories. As we tell our stories, we also need to be clear of the outcome we want. Because as we tell our stories, we are creating new narratives that affect how we live and experience the world. So It's important to tell your own story because your story allows you to create your own narrative of who you are and how you want to exist in the world. Your story allows you to transact in your reality and truth and not be consumed by other people's narratives. But Before you tell your story, ask yourself these questions, who am I? What is my purpose? What drives me ?what value proposition am I offering? What are my values that bring meaning to my life? What stories have I've allowed myself to consume? Am I being intentional in how I show up in the world? Am I showing up responsibly? Am I telling my story in the right spaces? Am I creating lasting effects with my story? Am I an agent of change through my story? Will my story telling be impactful? What a story to tell on this Women's Month!! #wbs #fasset #executivedevelopmentprogramme

How to escape the "Tiny Talk Trap" 🪤 When I moved to Toronto in 2008, I found myself without a social circle or professional network, and I soon realized that forming meaningful friendships as an adult was not easy. Although I would attend a different networking or community event almost every night, I kept having this deja vu of having to answer the same questions over and over. Can you guess which one? “So, what do you do?” I could feel my palms getting clammy as I faced person after person. As I was sharing my answer, I noticed the other person nodding politely, but I could see the disinterest in their eyes. A lot of these conversations would become dead ends because neither of us knew what to ask next. So, after an awkward silence that felt like hours, I felt obliged to ask them back: “So, what do you do?” They probably said something like, “I’m a lawyer or insurance broker,” or something similar… But I was not really listening to their answer because a voice inside me screamed for authenticity, for real connections - and this was not it! Looking back, I now describe this situation as the “Tiny Talk Trap” because I didn’t have the tools to escape this conversation. At the end of the event, I would feel extremely drained and leave with a stack of business cards from people I didn't remember. Introducing: Conversational Threads Today, I want to introduce you to one tool I wish I had back then. I recently learned that this was called “Conversational Threads” from Vinh Giang 🙌 Here is how it works: When someone asks me, “Where are you from?” and I respond with “Heilbronn,” the conversation ends. Most people will not know what to ask next, so queue the awkward silence. But if I responded with: “I’m from Heilbronn, a small city in southern Germany in a vast wine region. There are vineyards and forests all around me—literally a 5-minute walk. After living in a condo in Toronto for 14 years, it was nice to come back to a quieter lifestyle and be closer to my parents with our 5-year-old son. What’s the difference? I’ve created multiple “threads” for you to pull in depending on what you find interesting. You could be asking me a follow-up question about the following: 🍷 Wine 🌳 Forests 🏢 Condo living 🇨🇦 Toronto 🧘♂️ Quiet lifestyle 👨👩👦 Family 👦 Parenting etc. This technique opens the conversation to help us find commonalities and shared interests. Once we do, the conversation moves much smoother. Although this strategy won’t work every single time (after all, you’re not meant to connect with every single human on earth), it has dramatically changed my connections with new people I meet. I challenged everyone from last week's workshop with Nele Clüver and Arjanna van der Plas to try it at their next networking opportunity and report back! Why don't you join as well? Try it out and let us know how it goes 🙂 #beyondsmalltalk #smalltalkdetox #tinytalktrap #askdeepquestions
Rehumanizing the way we work | Strengths Trainer & Workshop Facilitator | Managing Partner Clüver & van der Plas Partnership | Co-Founder WOMEN'S HUB | Keynote Speaker & Moderation 🎤
Today I learnt what huge impact it can have to not just ask someone "𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱", but to add "𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲"? The first question is one we always ask in our WOMEN'S HUB online session as a little warm up in the chat when people are still arriving. The second question was an addition by our guest speaker Jan Keck today in our lunchtime session and oh, what a difference it made: people shared wonderful details of the places and cities they live adding a whole new layer of potential connections between the people in the room. And that was exactly what this whole session was about, to move from superficial small talk we tend to do especially with strangers to how we can really create connection my asking different questions and also answering differently. Big thanks to Jan 🙏🏼 for making us all (Arjanna van der Plas and me included) more aware in how we interact with each other and create spaces where we feel open to share from the heart 💛.
