The Federal Communications Commission's decision to allocate parts of the 6GHz spectrum band for shared use could provide some benefit to WISPs. However, the entrance of larger wireless carriers and cable providers into the fixed-wireless access market presents new challenges. Adapting their strategies, some WISPs are deploying fiber infrastructure or implementing a hybrid approach. To truly set themselves apart, delivering exceptional broadband experiences and nurturing subscriber loyalty are crucial. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eQeUbYSb #FCC #BroadbandAccess

NTIA's Fiber-Only BEAD Policy Limits Broadband Expansion "As states work to make use of federal broadband funding, a stipulation that the money can't be used for wireless networks is shortsighted and could hinder high-speed Internet access for those who need it now." "NTIA, fiber manufacturers and quite a few broadband leaders have a bias against fixed wireless networks — and particularly unlicensed ones — whether stated, implied or inferred. NTIA’s reported position on BEAD is that, “Any fully unlicensed networks will not be considered a 'reliable broadband network.'" This policy stance is particularly puzzling because this same agency, in other grant programs, has awarded millions of dollars for projects comprised entirely of fixed wireless networks." Gigabit Broadband Coverage Reaches 85 Percent of UK Premises 📌 New independent data shows that 85.06% of premises across the #UnitedKingdom can now access a gigabit-capable broadband connection, up from 80% at the end of 2023. This suggests that the first target under the Government’s £5 billion Project Gigabit programme has likely been met. However, the availability drops to 70.84% when considering only #fullfibre lines, highlighting the progress made and the remaining gap in achieving nationwide full fibre coverage. 🌐🛜 Read more on: https://lnkd.in/exqEeYGN

Three set to miss rural broadband deadline Three is likely to miss its rural broadband coverage targets as the deadline to address mobile signal “not spots” looms. Mobile network operators have until July to extend their coverage to encompass 88% of the UK’s landmass, the initial goal of a £1bn government initiative. While Vodafone has confirmed it will meet the deadline and Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) is also on track, smaller rival Three has stated it is “working hard” to achieve the targets but has not confirmed its compliance. BT, which owns the EE network, recently struck a rural coverage agreement with some of its competitors to help meet the deadline. Sources reveal that BT has arranged for VMO2 and Vodafone to access some of its mobile masts in remote areas. EE, boasting more mobile masts than its rivals and contributing separately to the rural coverage project, met its initial target earlier this year: https://lnkd.in/eqGgQhUr #telecoms #broadband #rural #networks #connectivity

New independent data has revealed that 85.06% of premises across the United Kingdom can now access a gigabit-capable broadband ISP connection (1000Mbps+), which is up from 80% at the end of 2023 and means the first target under the Government’s £5bn Project Gigabit programme has likely been achieved. The figure drops to 70.84% when only looking at full fibre (FTTP) lines. https://lnkd.in/exyB-c5y

Yes that is Gigabit capable. Broadband coverage figures can seem complex but that is because of definitions. This 85% includes HFC and Full Fibre. Full Fibre is at 70.8%, which means a lot of people having between 150Mbps and 8Gbps (yes 8Gbps), but most have a maximum of 900Mbps because of the choice of Openreach having only GPON. Some have symmetric as well, but not Openreach yet. Superfast is at 98.1%, which pretty much provides super consistent broadband. Minimum Broadband, as in USO, is apparently above 99.5% at 10Mbps - enough for basic full HD streaming. The UK is rapidly moving up the charts of broadband countries, and there are many countries in a much better situation than the UK. All very important to how the move from Broadcast to IP transition is taking place.

Did Smartaira win this award for actual performance or just for cutting a check? Because reliable, high-speed internet and customer service are non-existent for most residents. Maybe instead of flaunting awards, Smartaira should focus on fixing its broken service.
