It is inevitable that university courses will increasingly be delivered online. This is not all bad: as edtech evolves, there will be many benefits for students. For example, a high-quality, adaptive platform provides superior learning as compared to a stuffy lecture. However - and this is a big however - the human aspects of a university experience, with all the attendant personal development, will be increasingly reduced with the "death of campus life". Every time I come in contact with students or engage in a conversation with them concerning doing excellently in school, in grades particularly, I usually tell them that getting an ‘A’ in one's courses is not hard. Yes, it isn't hard! Now, we need to deal with a mindset that says it is hard. One of the things to know is that whether we say ‘we can’ or ‘we can't,’ we are right. What we believe influences how we behave. How we behave determines our results in life. This is why you've got to first of all believe you can have distinction. One of the ways to see this is that guys who get distinctions are not special. There must be something they know and principles by which they operate. One is understanding yourself. Many students want to get the results that their coursemates are getting by the steps their coursemates are taking, hook, line and sinker. While, it is not bad to learn from people, most especially, those who have succeeded, we have to understand the place of uniqueness. You need to know your level of assimilation. This is crucial for academic success. How do you learn? When do you enjoy reading? What atmosphere helps your understanding? In other words, assimilation is the process by which your brain receives, processes, digests and eventually disseminates information. Some students just need to hear something once, and it sticks to their brains. However, it takes some individuals two to three times to hear, see and reflect on something before it sticks. While some, days. So, when you understand as a student that you are to read something more than once to understand it, then this would help you to better prepare. Now to how to get a distinction. For every institution, there is a scheme for marking. In some institutions, examination is 60 marks. Test is 10 marks, the assignment is 20 marks and attendance is 10 marks. Overall mark is 100 marks. With the above, we can see that distinction starts from day one at school. There are 10 marks for attendance which is a reward for coming to school daily Two is the test. There is a common misconception that examination is the overall determinant of academic success. That isn't true. Three, there are 20 marks for assignment. This is one of the major mark boosters. Thanks to God for the internet, we now have numerous answers at our fingertips. Fourth, there are 60 marks for the examination. There is a saying that goes "Proper Prior Preparation Prevent Poor Performance." This means that we do or get the right result from any thing when we prepare well. If we can focus on getting the first 3 right and performing well at them - attendance, test and assignment, we won't be too scared and have to overly prepare for examinations. After all, there is something we need to know success comes with a lot of work and a price. It doesn’t just emanate. It is a conscious effort we have to make. Learners need hope and they need someone to believe in them. ·       Second-year students, congratulations on completing your first year and we hope that you will now have a better idea about the unique demands of distance learning.
