TLDR: Frisco's innovators have defined what makes the region unique and developed challenge statements to drive innovation. Come meet these visionaries and be part of our innovation journey. Frisco, TX is known as Sports City USA, but what does that really mean for innovation? Recently, we gathered a group of highly engaged stakeholders from across Frisco's innovation economy at the PGA of America HQ to explore this question and more. In partnership with Stadia Ventures and the Frisco Economic Development Corporation, we set out to understand how innovation flows through the region and where it faces obstacles. Our approach prioritizes human connection over equity transactions (though we love those too!). We brought together top-level stakeholders to discuss problem statements in an open, safe environment. From these discussions and thousands of data points, we determined Frisco's "Locus of Relevancy" - what makes the region unique and how specific technologies and business models can accelerate their development here better than anywhere else in the world. The outcome? We've defined shared challenge statements that our stakeholders can rally around - challenges that resonate with everyone. At the end of October (date coming soon), we're inviting the global innovation community to present their tech solutions. For each challenge, we're seeking a mix of researchers, startups with emerging tech, and organizations working with mature technologies. Curious about the challenges? I was just in Las Vegas these past days to meet with one of Sig2 Labs' investors to plan the path to our next round of funding, and discuss key functionality as the "painkiller" to inefficient communication in the field. While flying in, I admired the landscape from above, noticing how a situation looks so different with altitude. Perspective over perception. You can be in a desert - with all the metaphoric meanings you may give it - and with perspective from the right altitude you see where there's water - plenty of it. The means to build and grow. I'm convinced that solutions naturally reveal themselves from how we frame a problem. #MorningRant 📢 #DeepTech is not a sector, it is a characteristic on a venture’s technology stack. I’d like the ecosystem to consider how it labels ventures because it often creates the environment that actually confuses itself. Startupfest hosted the inaugural #HardTechFest which was a great addition to the event. #HardTech always gets a bad rap by investors for being more expensive to commercialize then software. The reality is that practically speaking it is actually less expensive to develop #hardware because there is an incredible amount of non-dilutive funding available for it that is not there for software. Hardware is HARDER however and I appreciate the moat that it develops for itself as a result.
