NEW 57M DYNARIG SAILING CATAMARAN FOR Dykstra Naval Architects ASC57: 57m Adventure Sailing Catamaran Echo Yachts has commenced construction of the ASC57, at their superyacht building facility in the Australian Marine Complex. This groundbreaking project brings together industry leaders from across the globe. In partnership with Dutch sailing yacht designers Dykstra Naval Architects and Australia's aluminium multihull experts One2three Naval Architects, the team will deliver the world's largest sailing catamaran to date. Drawing inspiration from Echo Yachts' 2023 new build motor yacht M/Y Charley 2, the ASC57 sailing yacht will feature similar luxury accommodation, a vast array of water toys, and helicopter landing capabilities. However, this super yacht introduces a twin-Dynarig sail system by Southern Spars, paired with Dykstra's sleek and refined sailing yacht aesthetics. As a result of the addition of sail power, a regenerative power system will be installed, utilising twin shaft generators and a battery storage system to allow for silent running under sail. With its hydrodynamic efficient aluminium hulls, full sail-powered propulsion, power regeneration and deployment options, the ASC57 offers significant eco-friendly performance advantages and greener modes of operation compared to traditional motor yachts. An extremely efficient aluminium hull form is complemented by twin Dynarigs providing a total sail area of some 1660 m2 for eco-efficient long range cruising. Weight reduction, simplicity and ease of operation will further characterize this project. Dykstra Naval Architects are providing the yacht's overall exterior styling, layout and naval architecture. Detailed naval architecture and structural design are being performed by Australian firm One2Three Naval Architects.

It's often used for emergency repairs or when a continuous loop of rope is needed. The key here is the precision in execution, ensuring the splice is as strong and smooth as possible. 5. The Dyneema Splice - Now, here's where modern technology shines. Dyneema, known for its incredible strength-to-weight ratio, requires a specialised splice technique. This splice is a game-changer in performance yachting, offering unparalleled strength, lightness, and durability. It's a prime example of high-tech materials meeting traditional skills. The magnificent yacht Alea embodies the very definition of a modern sailing vessel, meticulously designed to improve performance.   Vitters Shipyard has, over the years, built a nice mix of classic and modern sailing yachts, with at one end of the spectrum the J-Class Svea and at the other end, Alea.   Classic sailing yachts in general have a typical traditional design based on sailing yachts from the 19th and early 20th centuries. More than just a pretty boat. Yes, the R42 is pretty, but let’s not forget a few other attributes that have made her the quintessential ocean cruiser over the last quarter of a century. Let’s start at the bottom, with her encapsulated lead keel moulded as part of the hull, no bolts and no chance of this long fin keel coming off. Aft of the keel, we have a full skeg-hung rudder that supports the rudder from root to tip, great for protection and reinforcement. We also have a solid GRP laminate hull; we don’t use a foam-cored hull – we don’t need to save weight or add a possible point of failure on an ocean-crossing yacht where we don’t need to. Did you know, that below the waterline, we use clear gelcoat because we want to see there are no voids in the laminates, just to be 100% sure. We also fit water and fuel tankage low down, beneath the floor, contributing to the R42’s stability. On the subject of stability, who could forget the engine location? It’s not where it can disturb those sleeping in the aft cabins; it's low and central in the saloon. It keeps the engine weight centrally fore and Aft and above the keel, contributing to her excellent sea-kindly motion and stability. The location makes it easier to access for daily checks and gives all-around space for servicing – we have a ventilation system within the engine mounts to keep the engine cool, improving economy and extending the life of belts too. Today, you won’t find all these features on another sub-50-ft yacht in production. Why not? Put simply, other yachts aren’t designed for the sailing our owners undertake. Many R42 owners have crossed oceans, and some have sailed or are sailing the world. Some report that the boat is better at taking rough stuff than they are, while others enjoy 35-knot winds mid-ocean. Contemporary flybridge schooner SEA EAGLE in charter mode: the ultimate expression of personal freedom. Supersized sailing yachts: an attractive (and possibly even better) alternative to large motoryachts. Supersized sailing yachts offer the same enjoyment but are also much (more) fun while travelling from “A” to “B”. Also, they offer the stimulating experience of seeing the sails hoisted, catching the wind, and the slender bow cutting through the waves to pick up speed. Even those who are not keen on heeling angles, will be pleased to discover that new technologies exist to reduce lateral movement and heeling angle substantially. In addition to the thrill of sailing and the satisfaction of Royal Huisman’s bespoke quality, future owners will also enjoy the “green footprint” and the significant efficiency advantage of free propulsion power (the wind!).
