Why am I starting a new venture right before giving birth? It’s a question that’s come up several times in my conversations with friends after I shared that I’m leaving Venwise last week. I’m not ready to share what I’m working on publicly just yet, but I wanted to share my thinking around my decision. Since before Zach Roseman and I decided to start a family, we’ve always been very adamant about decoupling our personal and professional lives/choices. When this new venture began coming to life, we didn’t let the fact that I was 5 months pregnant influence my decision to keep building. And it’s not the first time: 1️⃣ Right before Noa was born, Zach quit his full time job with little plans for what came next. This was before he even thought about becoming a founder, before the idea of Draftboard came to be, and way before he raised his seed round. 2️⃣ A year ago, we decided to move to Israel. I was still working at Venwise, a US based company, Zach’s only employee was in the US. But we knew we wanted to build a life in Israel and that we’d make it work. 3️⃣ Today, 1 month from my due date, I officially start working full time of this new business. On one hand, none of it makes sense (to others). On the other hand, it all makes sense (to us). Here’s why it’s possible. 💛 Total trust in one another - either our plans work out, or we’ll make new ones that do! We know we’re hirable. We live a life we can afford. And if we take a hit, we’ll make it work. 💛 Equal partnership - we’re both very committed to our family and very committed to our careers, and equally committed to the other persons ability to do both well 💛 Accepting the messiness - it’s not always cute, there’s friction along the way, balls get dropped here and there and we’ve decided we’d rather have that than play a “safer game” Is life “harder?” Maybe. There are DEFINITELY more variables to juggle, transitions and shifts to navigate and lots of clear communication needed. But nothing feels more exciting to me than looking at our life and knowing we’re not compromising our dreams - for our family, and for our careers.

Great and meaningful thoughts Lawrence. I totally empathise with the wish to make a better world for others. It's important to remember that to be successful in doing that, you need an approach that is sustainable. After all, almost no meaningful change happens overnight, so you will likely need to sustain your effort for a long period of time as you push to change the world. There are of course different kinds of "comfort" that are directly related to the 8 dimensions of wellbeing. You can temporarily sacrifice one or more of these when you decide to push (for example the entrepreneur who gives up salary for a period of time). Ray Dalio is someone I admire. He is an investor and philanthropist. He founded Bridgewater Associates, one of the world’s largest hedge funds. A few years ago, I completed his Life Journey Exercise, which breaks life down into three phases with transitional periods in between. While this phase is reported to be one of the least happy parts of life on average, I’ve found it to be the opposite- it’s actually one of the happiest and most fulfilling times for me. This is when I decided to stop taking on the supporter role in my life and took on the lead role. Instead of blaming others or things for my situation, I took responsibility for my actions, owning up to my mistakes and failures. I’ve learned that these tough experiences are actually the best teachers, even though they can be painful. Taking control of my own life has brought excitement to me each day. Now, I wake up looking forward to levelling up in the game of life, just like the protagonists in video games. I hope everyone had a great Easter break. Easter is not just about joy and celebration but also about renewal and starting fresh. If you’re unhappy with where you are in life, know that you can turn it around. Some of you may not believe it; I, too, was once skeptical, but a special someone encouraged me to persevere and have faith that things will work out for the better.
