I can't say I'm a proficient teacher or lecturer. But what I know, I speak, so I can learn more. QUANTITY SURVEYORS AS ESTIMATORS Quantity Surveyors are also referred to as "Estimators" or "Building estimators" in different parts of the nation. But then, why is that? In construction, estimation is the first crucial step in financial planning. Estimating is a process that involves calculating the quantities and costs of materials, labour and other resources required for a construction project. Estimators serve as the financial architects of construction projects. Back to the main question, why are Quantity Surveyors also referred to as Estimators? Quantity Surveying in a sense, refers to the estimation of materials as well as the final cost estimation for any construction project. So, what makes a Quantity Surveyors is that; one of their roles is "estimating". Just like a mother, we firstly know her as a woman, but when she has a child and performs the roles of a mother, she is also therefore; "a mother". But then, Estimators lay the groundwork with an informed projection while the Quantity Surveyor skillfully navigates the project through the flow of the practical environment. Estimation and quantity surveying involves key points to consider: 📍 Clearly defining the scope of the project and understanding the requirements 📍 Gathering current and accurate information on material costs, labour rates and productivity rates 📍 Considering the site conditions, accessibility and potential challenges that may affect construction. There is little research examining the efficacy of the programme contingency. I am interested in your experiences in the submission of claims for Extension of Time and the Programme Contingency.
