Beyza Elgin Cengiz has made it very difficult for me to make my next hire 😡 I'm currently looking for 2 x Partner Manager (one UK and one US - East/Central) and have struggled to find the right fit I've even interviewed some of my closest friends and struggled to get the right approvals and confidently make a job offer 😔 Why? We wrapped up the financial year for DigitalGenius recently and Beyza had hit 120% of her target for the year 📈 🔥 Beyza was my first ever hire and she's set SUCH a high standard that I'm finding it very hard to find someone else I feel as confident about We're still small enough to be choosy, but we're growing very quickly and this is currently a bottleneck - how am I supposed to resolve this... Do we lower our expectations for the role, lower the salary, lower the title, etc., and shoot for someone more junior? Do we raise our expectations even higher and end up paying someone the same/more than me? Hiring is a very new challenge for me and I'm at a bit of a loss! #ecommerce #partnerships #hiring

When I figured out I wanted to be a recruiter, my company wasn’t hiring for a recruiter. So I pitched the role myself. And to make a long story short: I got the job! To make a long story slightly less short… In 2020, I joined an early stage startup as the first full-time business hire. I was the company’s 9th hire overall. My role - Marketing Associate - was a blended role that required me to wear many hats. I was in charge of customer support, sales, email marketing - you name it. I also sat on the hiring team for each new business hire that we made that year. This was my introduction to recruiting - and I was in love. I knew I wanted to pivot onto our talent team. So I… 1. Built a case for myself - I created a list of all the things I had accomplished, built and worked on in my hybrid marketing/CX role 2. Scheduled a meeting with our COO, and told her I wanted to discuss my career development 3. Presented my case in our meeting I concluded my presentation with one very important question: “I’m wondering, what comes next for me here?” This single question opened the door up to a wonderful, wide ranging conversation. I had the opportunity to share my desires to make a lateral shift to our talent team. We devised a plan for how to make this transition happen as smoothly as possible. Within three months, the transition was complete. I was now a Senior People Operations Associate, with a focus on hiring and scaling our team. Sometimes, there is no job posting. Sometimes, you have to ask for the job you want.

When a company is ready to make big moves, I will go to the ends of the earth to make that happen for them.
