BIG THANKS to everyone who joined this morning's "Everything You've Wanted to Know About EOP" session at the American Society for Engineering Education #ASEEAnnual Conference!
Led by a panel of rockstars, this session aimed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of the EOP resources available to support the integration of sustainability into engineering education. Panelists included: Cindy Anderson (Alula Consulting), Michael Milligan (ABET), Stephanie Harrington (ABET), Roneisha Worthy, PhD (Kennesaw State University), Matthew Verleger (National Science Foundation (NSF)), and Sarah DeLeeuw (ASEE).
Panelists shared valuable best practices and lessons learned on leveraging EOP resources to achieve curricular change and embed sustainability across engineering programs and institutions. Highlights included the ASEE Mini-Grant Program, which offers teams of educators from diverse engineering programs funding and mentorship to pursue new ways to integrate social and environmental sustainability learning outcomes into their programs (learn more at https://lnkd.in/gF7b8rsG), and The Lemelson Foundation's recent collaboration with the NSF to provide funding to foster efforts that transform engineering education and address environmental and social sustainability (learn more at https://lnkd.in/gfS7fJgH).
Engineering for One Planet is a transformative initiative equipping future engineers with the fundamental skills and principles of social and environmental sustainability. We recognize the immense impact engineers have on the world, shaping everything from consumer products to buildings and transportation systems. Their decisions have the power to create positive or negative consequences for generations to come.
While sustainability topics are gaining traction in engineering education, many students still lack exposure to essential sustainability-focused concepts, tools, and methodologies. The demand for engineers with a strong foundation in environmental, social, and economic sustainability is rapidly growing. The EOP Framework, co-created by a diverse community of experts, is a practical tool to address this need. It guides educators on how to seamlessly integrate sustainability into various engineering courses and programs across disciplines. Visit EOP's website for a full list of free resources: https://lnkd.in/e9wx3Sq2
We encourage you to explore the EOP Framework and its companion guides so that, together, we can equip future engineers with the skills necessary to build a more sustainable world!
