Tomorrow (Tuesday) we have the first of School of Human Kind's monthly 'First Tuesday Talks'. One of the founding principles of School of Human Kind is a need to rediscover the art of genuine, respectful conversation. In a world of shouting and conflict, it seems important. So each month a few of the faculty will get together to talk around a topic. Each will have a couple of minutes to introduce some ideas. Then a further couple of minutes to respond to what the others have said. Then we open it up to free dicussion and to you, our audience. It'll all be done in less than an hour. Perhaps we'll find agreement. Perhaps we'll strongly disagree. Either way, we'll explore an idea and, we hope, discover new ways of thinking about it. For this first session the topic is: 'Comparison is the thief of joy' On the panel: Angela Jamieson (Canada), Wyndham James (UK), Vreni Renggli (Switzerland) & John Britton (Ireland). We start 8pm (UK time)/12pm (Pacific Time) We'd love you to come along and contribute. Reserve your place here: https://lnkd.in/eSUaSsXb

More than ever! We have always known that our Advocate Mentors play a critical role in their mentees’ success. They help their students with homework, coach them in essential life skills, and open their minds to new experiences and opportunities. Teachers play a similar role in students’ lives, but with teacher turnover rates (WSJ “Why Teachers Are Still Leaving the Profession,” Mar. 4, 2024) still too high post-pandemic, the consistent presence of our Advocate Mentors is now more important than ever. Inconsistent teacher presence contributes to lower student test scores, research shows, so consistent presence means better grades! We see this kind of impact every year in our students’ success rates—our Advocate Mentors make a difference! To sponsor a child or an Advocate Mentor, click here: https://loom.ly/6VgRTNs
