Are you tired of being the "jack of all trades" in your marketing role? Back in the day, professionals chose a specialized field and became experts in that niche. Today, it seems like marketers are wearing 5-10 different hats simultaneously, and it's leading to burnout and mediocre results. Why does this happen? There are a couple of reasons. Firstly, CEOs are looking to cut costs, often requiring one person to juggle multiple roles. My advice to the CEO, your accountant doesn't train you in the gym -- stop letting your social media manager design your website. This might seem like a cost-effective solution, but it can lead to diluted performance and missed opportunities. Secondly, there's the fear factor at play. Employees worry that if someone else takes over part of their role, they might outshine them or worse, their boss might think they're incapable of doing their job. An employee's ego might say "no I can do it, you don't need to hire someone else" instead of having the attitude that two heads are better than one and that you can hone in and elevate your skills and become the TOP thought leader in one area. Let me tell you, this is not the way to grow as a professional. As someone who's been in the marketing game for a while, here's the golden nugget of advice I wish I'd received earlier: pick a lane and dominate it. Instead of spreading yourself too thin, focus on becoming exceptional in one specific area. You want to be the go-to expert, the person everyone turns to for that particular skill set. Imagine the impact you could make if you channeled all your energy into mastering a single aspect of marketing. Your value would skyrocket, and your expertise would be sought after. It's time to step up and make a name for yourself in your chosen lane. Don't settle for being good at everything; strive to be the best at one thing. It's the key to unlocking your true potential in the ever-evolving world of marketing. Remember, success isn't about doing everything; it's about doing the right thing exceptionally well. I never really liked Sharwama. I felt like it was overrated even. The first time I ate shawarma, I'm not gonna lie it was irritating. I didn't like all the chunks inside it and I found it difficult and stressful to eat too. I concluded I wasn't going to eat it ever again. For years I refused shawarma at any opportunity. One day, my best friend and I went on a date. The shawarma I ate there omg! I fell in love instantly. I was so reluctant and closed-minded about it Now, I'm just a huge fan. I love shawarma and I've been missing out this whole time. Now, thinking about it. My mindset had literally every part to play. In today's digital age, the online marketing landscape is constantly evolving. To thrive and succeed in this dynamic domain, it's crucial to cultivate the right mindset. it's very important to note that your mindset about something can either make or mar your chances of success in that area. Some important elements to embrace to help your mindset towards business: 1️⃣ Adaptability: Stay flexible and open to change. This is what ‘Social Media’ looked like 25 years ago! Visibility, Visibility Visibility … I hear it all the time off all the marketing greats, you need to be visible, but in the the world of business today, I actually think it’s one of the hardest, yet most important aspects to nail. In theory, it should be so much easier today, you want to share who you are and what you do and boom, there’s your post. BUT Getting people to stop, look, and take notice, is a whole new ball game, which is why we use the skills of Marketing and Branding experts like Del Parsons (MCIM, BA Psych) Amy Mantle, Leanne Kirszanek and Jennifer Hilton So what’s my point here? This is me 25 years ago building my Training Consultancy, and I was everywhere, give me a stage, give me a microphone and I was on it, the biggest challenge for my host was usually getting me off! At the start, of course I was terrified, but there was 'no other option' in those days, there was no hiding behind a social media post, in fact there was no internet, well other than that warbling AOL disc 😂 But the more I did it, the easier it became, and the easier it became the more I began to enjoy it. I say that to be successful in business you need to STAND UP & STEP IN to STAND OUT, but the biggest obstacle for so many people is the first hurdle and the fear of STANDING UP! 😫 What if I fail? 😬 What will people think of me? 😪 What if nobody likes me? So … They either don’t do it, or do it badly as they 'don’t know how.' Rewind to the first time I had to stand on a stage, and yes I was absolutely terrified, but ‘back in the day’ you had to pick up the phone or be in the room, and I truly believe those skills are even more important today.
