Today in Asia Times, I wrote about the Pentagon's Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2) system, an advanced warfare concept emphasizing artificial intelligence (AI) integration and interoperability across all warfare domains, including with allies and partners. The system, aimed at outmaneuvering tech-savvy rivals like China, has reached initial operational readiness, supported by a $1.4 billion allocation in the DOD's fiscal 2024 budget. This strategic initiative seeks to digitally connect forces across land, air, sea, space, and cyber domains, leveraging AI for quicker target identification and engagement, transforming military operations and decision-making processes. The article further discusses the evolution of CJADC2 from the older Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) concept, emphasizing its focus on combined efforts with international partners for enhanced effectiveness in multiple theaters. It highlights the challenges of implementing such an integrated system, including technical compatibility, doctrinal adjustments, and the need to streamline decision-making processes across different military branches and with allies.
