Never underestimate the power of observation and what it could lead to! After watching their children play with blocks and snappable materials, our founders realized the importance of fun and educational playtime. Determined to build a business that offers #enrichment classes, parties and camps, they laid the foundation for the #Snapology we all know and love today. Do you know who our founders are?

Today is vowel team day and another IYKYK. This multisyllabic bundle focuses on animals so I am thinking snowy owl. We know that dyslexics need explicit instruction and practice. This passage about snowy owls will give them an opportunity to practice reading the 2 sounds of -ow. The way animals adapt to their environment is a thing of beauty. Let's hope I can adapt to this digital environment and offer my deep knowledge to publishers of controlled text. #controlledtext #phonics #vowelteams #dyslexics #digitalenvironments

As a sign company, we know how fun it is to create those memorable back-to-school signs. But it's important to consider the information you're sharing online. Posting your child’s school, grade, or even their teacher’s name can give strangers too much access to their location and routine. Be mindful of what details you share, and always prioritize your kids’ safety. Children’s knowledge of letter names and sounds is a strong predictor of their reading and spelling abilities. Mastering the alphabetic principle is a keystone of early literacy – a primary objective of preschool and kinder instruction and intervention. Alphabet Animal Friends support these skills. What would your students think of this? #Earlyliteracy #letterrecognition #Alphabet #Rhyming #AlphabetAnimalFriends

I love metaphors - there is so much meaning that remains hidden inside a metaphor to unpack. Is it a cheetah - the article is a brilliant metaphor for realising the potential of children. Though it references giftedness but can apply to a wider population. As a parent and education researcher, some thoughts the article left me thinking about: Schools (the best of them) promise the forest (no fault of theirs since that is how an institution is designed) but end up being zoos. Whether the child encounters a 'forest' or a 'zoo' may not be a static association with a particular institution. A family can become a zoo or a forest to a child depending on how rigid the beliefs of the people in the family are. The same goes for schools or any learning experience. The zoo by definition is a 'paid entry' v/s the forest is free - does learning have to be a paid experience? Can we create mini forests outside of the dominant zoos that are ubiquitous? Is 'culture' a zoo? How does one sensitize oneself to find the forest outside of it so that we can inspire the children around us? The list goes on... Please share your thoughts on what did metaphor sparked for you. https://lnkd.in/gTQgFnHB #giftedness #potentialofeverychild #nurturinggiftedness #earlychildeducation

INTERACTING WITH YOUR BABIES "When pointing, children are taking responsibility for their own learning, asking another to offer information about what they’re pointing to. What a baby knows, what a bird knows, what blade of grass knows, is all knowledge. It matters not that it was arrived at by reason, instinct, inspiration, or intuition. Our schools, however, are built around the hierarchy of knowing. Reason is placed at the top. Indeed, a child's instinct to move, to connect, and to play is quashed. A child's inspirations are, at best, seen as cute, but off-topic. A child's intuitions are deemed inferior to the "real" knowledge being delivered to them by the colonialism of "for their own good." . . . And while you're here, please join the 2024 cohort for my 6-week course, Teacher Tom's Play-Based Learning (https://lnkd.in/gN9GWEZY). Even better, sign up your entire team. It's the best way I know to ensure that the children in your life have the opportunity to engage all the ways of knowing.
