Coordinating an on-campus interview is a rewarding part of PR work. From arranging schedules, and prepping the thought leader, to facilitating the actual session, each step, though time-intensive, brings a sense of accomplishment. On July 11, Nanyang Siang Pau featured a full-page write-up on EVs, partly based on an insightful interview with Dr Denesh Sooriamoorthy, Senior Lecturer from APU’s School of Engineering, conducted by writer Ms Yu Peini. Seeing the full-page spread was a proud moment—but the work doesn’t end there! Follow-up tasks like notifying the interviewee, sharing the news, and back-end duties like paper-cutting and archiving are still part of the job. https://lnkd.in/guHuxy-z

According to the NCSEA SE3 Career Advancement topic brief, “White respondents were more likely than all other racial groups to report satisfaction [with career advancement].” These trends are common throughout data reported in NCSEA and SEAONC SE3 publications within our profession. SEAONC SE3 is hosting a panel to inspire conversations about fostering inclusivity and ensuring equitable access to opportunities within our profession – especially for underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. Panelists will discuss their personal experiences within the industry and practical strategies for advocating on behalf of themselves, colleagues, or employees. All structural engineering professionals and students are encouraged to attend, especially those who are part of the BIPOC community. Come to the event ready to listen or actively participate by asking the panelists questions. Afterward, students and young professionals are invited to participate in a round of speed mentoring or join other attendees in networking to continue the discussion.
