Instead of "Chicken or Beef?", imagine hearing your flight attendant ask you, "Sir, would you like Red Thai chicken curry and rice or chicken cacciatore with roast potatoes and bell peppers, and pesto penne?", in *Economy Class*! Air Canada is raising the bar in #paxex by adding 100+ rotating meals. Most will include Canadian ingredients as well, like 100% pure maple syrup on your 🥞 pancakes for breakfast :) Given how large Canada is, most flights in Canada are longer than what you'd experience elsewhere, including the US. And given how far north Canada is, most international flights are long too. This means passengers eat. A lot! So why not differentiate the passenger experience based on in-flight meals? When I was writing my first book, SOAR, I interviewed former Turkish Airlines CEO, Temel Kotil. He told me that he decided to take away the in-flight shopping carts from the airline so that the only carts that go down the aisle carry meals. His focus on food was so relentless that he did not want his passengers distracted by anything else! Now, Turkish has possibly the best food of any airline in the world. Is Air Canada about to take that mantle in North America? As a Canadian, now living in the UK, I fly Air Canada quite often. The airline already has better food than most North American airlines, and now, it's going to be far ahead of the pack. I'm looking forward to trying the meals myself and I've just Pre-booked a special meal for my mother-in-law flying in a few days. Who said airplane food was bad? Air Canada proves you wrong. More on the news here: https://lnkd.in/exMberKT Nice work by the #AirCanada team. I wonder which one of you got to try the most variety of foods :) Mark Nasr Scott O'Leary Jackie Harkness, Andy Shibata, Sean Turner, Jennifer Murphy, Julien Verona, Bassem? #foodie #airlines
Sir, would you like Red Thai chicken curry and rice or chicken cacciatore with roast potatoes and bell peppers, and pesto penne?" If they have to say all of this, the lunch/dinner service will take so long! 😉
Now, focus this away from an seemingly binary airline choice of 'Either - Or' situation (food/in-flight retail) and instead, look at the dimension of an airline being able to offer 'Both' (food AND in-flight retail). Contact me for details about how Bluebox Aviation Systems can facilitate 'purchase-from-seat' throughout the flight, for increased ancillary revenue. That has to taste good for any airline CCO!
Agreed Shashank. This is a move in the right direction. Bravo Air Canada for differentiating in a positive, customer-friendly way!
Real maple syrup on pancakes? This Canadian expat approves. Although I would imagine the cabin cleaning crews are less excited.
Definitely beats the slice of pizza in a cardboard box I got "served" on my Singapore Airlines flight from JFK to FRA last week!
Great highlight. Quality food might even trump Wifi for me. Glad to hear this about Air Canada!
Acting CEO.
8moSo it was chicken or chicken then? Great if you are a chicken lover, not so good if you aren’t.
