The Atlantic Ocean is heating up earlier than ever, signaling an aggressive hurricane season. NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration predicts up to 25 named storms, with 13 potentially becoming hurricanes and up to 7 major hurricanes. Why? A warmer Atlantic and La Niña weather pattern. Expert Brian McNoldy warns, “The ocean is already in the heart of hurricane season. It’s three months ahead of pace” Local Impact: Colorado State University predicts a 50% chance a named storm will come within 50 miles of Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties, and an 11% chance for a major hurricane to hit Tampa Bay. #HurricaneSeason #ClimateChange #StormPreparedness #Hurriance

NOAA has released its most aggressive hurricane season forecast ever for the Atlantic basin, projecting a potentially ferocious year. The agency predicts between 17-25 named storms, with 8-13 potentially becoming hurricanes and 4-7 of those reaching major hurricane status. This forecast surpasses previous years, pointing to an 85% chance of an above-average season. The Atlantic's warm surface temperatures and the absence of a strong El Niño pattern are contributing factors to the active hurricane season outlook. It is impossible to accurately predict the specific areas that will be affected and the precise locations where hurricanes will make landfall. However, the forecast indicates a heightened likelihood of substantial hurricanes impacting various regions, with the Caribbean facing the greatest risk. This is the wrong year to suffer from "hurricane apathy." Now is the time to get ready - with warm sea surface temperatures, rapid intensification means that storms can escalate from tropical storm to hurricane status within hours, giving residents little time to prepare. https://lnkd.in/ef_xCfwx

A QUIET ATLANTIC – AND HURRICANE SCIENTISTS ARE WONDERING WHY: As peak hurricane season begins, the Atlantic ocean hasn’t been this quiet in 50 years despite record-high water temps and season predicted to be active. This development has scientists puzzled, with several working theories emerging. One has it that the storm-generative easterly waves that typically form off the African coast have been diverted north or stalled by unusually dry and dusty air. Another is an atmosphere characterized as abnormally stable that’s preventing the variability hurricanes to start spinning. And last, some believe that wind shear (upper and lower winds are moving in different directions) is blocking storm formation. This year saw the strongest early-season hurricane on record (Beryl in July) but no storms between August 12th and September 3rd – the first time that’s happened since 1968. #emrergingissues #insuranceindustry #extremeweather
Curiously quiet Atlantic has hurricane scientists scratching their heads. ‘A mystery.’
