This article and survey data demonstrate how far behind possibility most organizations are today when it comes to leveraging their data, and they've likely been falling behind for years. Data quality being stated as the primary reason data is not ready for Generative AI, and that they are focused on more tangible value added problems. But why aren't individuals in these organizations empowered to solve for these quick value added solutions on their own in a matter of minutes or hours, rather than requiring the full focus of the entire organization? From the beginning, these leaders are likely pressured to focus solely on point solutions right in front of them and so many times those point solutions aren't even relevant any more by the time they are delivered. And when there is no unifying strategy, architecture, or investment in individual enablement, they basically have to start over again with the next point solution. Perpetuating this cycle, and continued excuses for why they aren't delivering strategic value. Quick value add solutions should be included in any strategy, of course, but not the only thing. The consequences of this short-term thinking, avoiding the hard work of getting holistic data management in place to bring their company into the age of data, is only going to get worse for the organizations that fall into this spiral.
