The indictment filed by the US Department of Justice against an Indian national, allegedly directed by an Indian government official for attempting an assassination plot against the US-based Khalistani separatist Gurupatwant Singh Pannun, has now emerged as a formidable diplomatic challenge for India and the US to ensure it does not cast a shadow over their deepening bilateral relations and strategic partnership. While the Indian government took serious note of the indictment, much needs to be done to allay the concerns raised by the US on this issue. Given the fact that India's ties have more breadth and depth and cooperation between the two countries now covers an array of areas ranging from strategy to defence, space to technology, economics to people to people, and it is the most strategically aligned partnership for India's interests politically and economically, India could hardly afford to have a dismissive attitude towards US concerns.

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's removal poses significant challenges for India, a key ally that has fostered important defense, economic, and cultural ties with Bangladesh. India, already facing aggression from China and hostility from Pakistan, must now address the potential volatility on its eastern border. Bangladesh is India's 25th largest trading partner, with bilateral trade amounting to $12.9 billion and significant investments over the past two decades. The recent acquisition of operational rights at the strategic Mongla port is now at risk due to political instability and fears of increasing Chinese influence and ISI interference. Bangladesh relies heavily on Chinese defense imports, and both China and Pakistan may exploit the situation to destabilize northeastern India. The over 4,000-kilometer border shared with Bangladesh has seen a continuous influx of people, particularly during unstable periods, raising concerns about possible spillover effects. India's navigation of the evolving situation will be critical to prevent the emergence of a hostile neighbor. #AsiaRisk #GeopoliticalConflictandDisputes #India Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gGXTXcGY

Why have India and Pakistan never been able to promote efficient neighborliness? This gap, between the ties, can be bridged only when both the sides express a limpid will to do so ,and take pragmatic steps towards ensuring a fortified union. Not only Pakistan but India has also been showing intransigence to resolving the issues bringing about hindrances in bilateralism. If such issues are resolved , the leading states of the region may transform themselves into an Asian "European Union" as a result of which we won't need to absolutely rely on any imperialist giant. Conversely; we must understand that the people are willing but the stakeholders ain't. This is an intricacical phenomenon. Our governments, monarchs , lords ,etc, have been making us at odds with each other for centuries. We have to raise voices to put an end to this traditionalism.

What does the US hope to gain from going public with India’s alleged role in a plot to kill Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun? Did the US encourage Canada’s Prime Minister Trudeau to go public with his accusation against India? Is Pannun a CIA asset? In this conversation on The Gist, former foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal attempts to answer these and other questions. He acknowledges being baffled by the US wanting to work with India at various strategic levels while also seeking to bring it down. He tries to answer the question whether the American Deep State is behind moves to discredit India? Or is it sending a message to the political establishment about India? In his view the US has always seen India’s non-alignment as heresy, and may view India seeking leadership of the Global South in the same vein. Tune in for more in this conversation with Kanwal Sibal, former foreign secretary. https://lnkd.in/dr5_di9B
