Will artificial intelligence (AI) replace our jobs? According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2023, up to 25% of jobs will undergo significant changes in the next five years. But the report also suggests that rather than replacement, envisioning collaboration between humans and AI can augment our capabilities and transform roles. As AI automates certain tasks, adaptability and reskilling become crucial for staying relevant in the workforce. Continuous learning is essential. The robots are coming for our jobs! 🤖😱 Not so fast. 🛑 The World Economic Forum just released its Future of Jobs report for 2023, and it has some thought-provoking data on AI that challenges the doomsday headlines. Here are the key takeaways: 💡 Companies are betting big on AI - 75% plan to adopt AI technologies like machine learning and neural networks in the next five years. 💪 But the net job impact looks positive - 50% think AI will create new roles, vs. 25% that expect job losses. 👷♂️ AI specialists will be in hot demand - with a 40% growth forecast adding 1 million new jobs globally. 🎓 Training is urgently needed - companies ranked upskilling staff on AI as a top priority, though it's currently only the 15th most common skill. 🤖 AI will transform tasks, taking on more reasoning and coordination work - but also enabling new solutions. 📊 Higher wage roles likely most impacted - but balanced by new opportunities. 💡🤝🤖 My guess is most of us have tried out generative AI, but are treating it like Google. We strongly suggest perusing the recent World Economic Forum jobs report for 2023 as it sets up a positive premise for AI. The report mentions that 75% of businesses expect a shift towards eCommerce and digital trade. There's also a coming workforce gap with the exit of the Baby Boomer generation. Companies expect that they will be able to use AI to help further the talent progression of their existing employees in a way that will not only help with job retention but also make their people better at what they do which in turn raises their value. The only real threat mentioned is the proliferation of robotics to automate more specific hard labor jobs.
