In the hustle of project planning, it is easy to lump everything under engineering/ construction costs. But here is a thought: separating Environmental and Health and Safety (EHS) budgets isn't just a best practice; it's a necessity. Why? Because when EHS costs are sidelined, compliance with Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP) or EHS Plans can take a hit. By allocating a distinct budget for ESMP/ EHS right from the planning/design stage, we set ourselves up for smoother implementation during execution or construction stage. When planning an EHS budget, it is important to cover all aspects that contribute to a safe, healthy and environmentally compliant workplace. Here's what you should consider including: 1. Training and Education 2. Safety Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 3. EHS Personnel and Consultancy 4. Waste Management 5. Monitoring and Compliance 6. Emergency Preparedness and Response 7. Incident Management and Reporting 8. Health and Medical Services 9. Equipment Maintenance and Upgrades 10. Sustainability and Environmental Management 11. Contingency for Unforeseen Environmental Issues Having a well-rounded EHS budget helps ensure that your organization/ Project not only meets regulatory requirements but also fosters a culture of safety and well-being. It's all about planning ahead to keep everyone safe, healthy and environmentally conscious! Let's start planning better for a safer, greener future! #ProjectManagement #EHS #EnvironmentalPlanning #Construction #SafetyFirst #Sustainability #EnvironmentalBudget #EHSBudget #HSE

The 5 Principles of HOP not only apply to OHS, but to any discipline. They don’t require anything other than collaboration and openness for their implementation. If your teams are not up to speed on Resiliency Engineering and Safety Differently, consider running some workshops, even if you need to run them at field-level. Put your boots on and have a ‘walking meeting’ around your project, if that’s what it takes to get a captive audience! Transitioning your OHS culture from a culture of compliance and policing begins with a few simple steps. The Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association (SCSA) and EHS Analytics bring an effective, measurable, and continuous monitoring leading indicator to Saskatchewan construction companies. Details here: https://bit.ly/3WPrJWH 🔗 Through an ongoing collaboration with the SCSA, EHS Analytics has continued to administer the Institute for Work & Health OPM Safety Culture Survey to SCSA members six times over the past three years. The data gathered from the surveys has enabled EHS Analytics to explore the relationship between a company's IWH-OPM score and its future lost time injury rates. 📈 Key Findings: The data collected demonstrated the IWH-OPM Safety Culture Survey as a reliable leading indicator of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) performance. Companies with higher IWH-OPM Safety Culture Survey scores experienced significantly fewer injuries in the following six months after the survey compared to those with lower scores. Furthermore, the results validate the positive impact of the COR® (Certificate of Recognition) program in strengthening safety culture. Read the full White Paper here: https://bit.ly/46QXnb0 Why Companies should do the Safety Culture Survey: Enhanced Safety Performance - Companies scoring higher on the IWH-OPM Safety Culture Survey can expect a reduction in lost time injuries, improving overall safety performance. Get Safety Insights - The survey provides insights that help companies identify areas for improvement in their safety culture. Continuous Improvement - Regular participation in the survey enables continuous monitoring and enhancement of safety practices. What’s Next? 🎉 Almost 800 Saskatchewan construction companies have measured safety culture using the IWH-OPM. SCSA members can sign up for the next safety culture survey here: https://bit.ly/4dIDuF5 #SafetyManagement #SafetyData #SafetyLeadership #SafetyCulture #OHS #WorkplaceSafety #ConstructionSafety #COR

Over just the last few years, I've noticed more companies adopting HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality) into their services, and I'm telling you now: Quality is going to be the next huge industry wave. With no shortage of respect for the age-old construction industry, safety became a focal point relatively recently. Health & Safety was next, as people started to realize that a worker's health is just as important as their actions at work. HSE is where we are currently at, with many companies amalgamating these aspects. Now, very recently, I'm seeing HSEQ roles popping up. It's important to recognize Quality as a standalone discipline and incorporate it before it takes you by surprise. Are you ready for the next wave in the industry? What are your thoughts on this? Is Quality making its way into your business strategy, or are you already perched on the summit of perfection, scoffing at such petty matters? #curiousmindset #construction #motivated

The Role of the Building Safety Regulator In line with Hackitt's recommendations, the Building Safety Act introduces three new governing bodies, one of which is the Building Safety Regulator (BSR). The Building Safety Regulator will fall under the oversight of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) who will perform the crucial tasks of ensuring building safety, monitoring industry performance, and advising the government. To bolster the BSR's effectiveness, the HSE will collaborate with two government committees: ◾ the Industry Competence Committee, ◾ and the Building Advisory Committee. These partnerships will draw on the HSE's existing expertise to facilitate the BSR's establishment. It's important to note that the Building Safety Regulator will function independently, wielding its own powers, strategies, and operational methods, which will enable the BSR to play a pivotal role in setting the course and expediting industry-wide adoption of competence and compliance. Through the vigilant enforcement of regulations and the changes introduced by the Building Safety Act, the BSR aims to steer the industry toward a safer and more compliant future. Are you prepared to embrace these transformative changes for the betterment of our built environment? 💪
