𝗔 𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗧𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 It’s easy enough to pour yourself a glass of wine, have a taste and know whether it’s your cup of tea; but being able to identify a wine’s style and story from a single sip takes you to a whole new level of appreciation. If the thought of understanding the wine in your glass better whets your appetite, our guide to tasting wine like a pro is for you. 1. See Observe the colour and quality of the wine. The wine colour is most affected by the following: a. age of the wine b. grape variety 2. Swirl Swirling wine in the glass exposes it to a larger surface area. This increases wine’s contact with air & intensifies its aroma. 3. Smell Smelling helps to release the aroma compounds, and reveals most of its flavours. 4. Sip The overall ‘taste’ of wine is the combination of smells and flavours. Let the wine linger on your tongue for a moment and savour it.

Gambero Rosso This article is ill-informed, elitist, and belittling those who enjoy flutes. I don’t care how a person drinks their sparkling wine; a beer stein or solo cup is fine with me. How about some useful information to help consumers choose what is best for their taste? Very simply, the flutes narrow aperture intensifies the bubble at the nose, which can be too much for some consumers. HOWEVER, the narrow aperture means less liquid touches the lips, so there is greater explosion of bubbles in the midpalate. This provides greater mouthfeel and extends the finish. Flutes are best for textural drinkers. The wider aperture of a white wine glass reduces the intensity of the bubbles to the nose, but also allow more wine to touch the lips. This causes a greater explosion of bubbles up front, which provide more up-front aromatics but leaves the midpalate flatter and finish less intense. White glasses are best for aromatic drinkers. Are some flutes too narrow – yes! And some white wine glasses are too wide! Your uninformed opinion is destructive to hospitality and demonstrates a very closed mind to individual personal taste #savetheflute #drinkwhatyoulike #misinformation #nowisdom
