We are living through a momentous period of change as we transition our energy systems to renewable. The change is both technological and social. It is imperative that we not only shape the technological agenda but we also share the vision and the leadership needed to transition effectively.
Seasoned conference goers will know that the value of these events is as much in the offline conversations as what's happening on stage, but also in the intent of the gathering. The intent of the South West Development Commission's inaugural Innovative Industries of the Future conference raises the ambition of Western Australian business and industry leaders, thinkers and power brokers to step up boldly to current challenges, cognisant of both huge opportunity and an urgent timeframe. I love the idea that WA still has the chance to tell a magnificent story about how we stepped up in this critical moment, so I can't wait to see how the Innovative Industries of the Future conference can impact the collective effort. Congratulations to Mellisa Teede and team for curating such interesting conversations. I'm looking forward to my panel with Dr Parwinder Kaur, Marion Burchell and Trevor Cochrane that asks "What role can governments, researchers, innovators, industry and the creative industries play in creating trustworthy platforms and content that engage communities and build social license on developments?" One of the major downsides of working in industry is that you can't talk about the coolest things you're working on RIGHT NOW! Which means that when it's time to submit abstracts for conferences, you usually get stuck standing at a poster that no one visits. And this just reaffirms this weird narrative that nothing interesting is happening in industry because all of our coolest work can't be talked about until it's public. Which: 1) is rarely timed well with the conference circuit and 2) by the time most things make it to market, it's already old news. Hence getting 'postered.' One way to get out of this cycle is to bring an audience to you and your work by being more active on social media! You didn't get a talk at the conference? Talk about it online. The audience here is way bigger than it will be at any conference anyway!

As I sit as the #AfricaProsperityDialogues and the halls begin to look empty, I ask myself the following questions: 🗨How can we keep our conferences within allocated times advertised? 🗨 Why do conference participants and delegates leave the events before the official closing? 🗨 How can we make conferences concise with mimimum panelists driving home the intended message? 🗨 How can we begin to measure the effects/impact of these beautiful and *#insightful* conferences? Meanwhile, I love how such conferences are able to connect participants to opportunities- human resources, opening our minds to issues we hardly think about in the midst of our daily duties.

EA to Hon'ble Shri Suresh Prabhu | Public Policy | Rural Development | Panchayat Raj | Community Development | Leadership development
#PublicPolicyConference - These days, I see so many public policy enthusiasts attending conferences with great enthusiasm. Their aim? Networking, making connections, and perhaps unlocking the secrets of shaping their future! But let’s be honest—how often does it end with collecting only two things: the lunch and the conference notepad (along with that trusty branded bag)? 😂 At this point, it feels like --- #conference par #conference, conference par conference, conference par conference attend kr rha ---- lekin networking nhi ho pa rhi hai, contact nhi mil pa rhe hai dosto 😜 - Par lunch 🍱 - Aur photo click krne m maza aa rh hai 🤳 Note - Attending a conference is useless unless you can write an email or message showcasing your skills and explaining how you can help them in their work and save time.

As you would expect from a Hot Topics session, it was indeed hot and generated a lot of interest from the audience. Fortunately, there are still almost two days to go, so there will be opportunities to continue the discussions started during the panel behind the scenes. Many thanks to Alicja Zielinska-Eisen, Christian Borris, Joanna Kisielińska-Garncarek, PhD, Joanna Kolber, Ioana Knoll-Tudor and Annet van Hooft.
