Loneliness has been getting a lot of attention, and deservedly so. But there's a way to reframe the conversation that is empowering and impactful. In my latest for STAT, I explain: https://lnkd.in/g3S5ydga #socialhealth #loneliness #publichealth
Thank- you for your way of phrasing this issue...as a person who studied Public Relations, worked in Long Term Care homes and do Advocacy work- relating to older adults. As said here, Social Health is more of a positive, action oriented expression - post covid. Another area that needs a more empowering update/ reframe post covid, is the wording -elder abuse. In Quebec their way of speaking about this is the Mistreatment of Older Adults. As spoken about here, people are not stepping up when they hear loneliness (negative) either are they when they hear the word abuse.
Yes, Kasley! It’s a health problem.
Kasley Killam, MPH Interesting and empowering reframe. Thanks for your work and generosity in sharing.
Great piece! We can't wait for your book!

5moI love the way this has been reframed and am sure your upcoming book will be a huge success. One thing has struck me about the current discussion about loneliness....well two things really..... Firstly there has been a huge increase in positing here on the topic often in a broader narrative of human connection and belonging. I certainly welcome the additonal attention to the issue but so much of it seems to me to be consultants who have bolted it on to whatever they were doing before - is there really a long term genuine commitment to the issue? Secondly in other areas such as say DEI, Mental Health, Grief, Neurodiversity (and likely others) we hear the direct voices of those affected......That doesn't seem to be happening to the same extent here.....Where are the voices of the lonely? Is this because it carries such a great stigma..... Just wonderin'..... (this is one reason why I am such fan of Phil McAuliffe)
