Do Wealthy Parents Owe It To Their Struggling Adult Children To Help Them? Would the circumstances make a difference? For example, do their grown children or their grandchildren have special needs or unusual challenges, seem to be trying their best, or maybe have limitations? What if the grown children feel entitled or are not financially responsible? I recall someone I know who expressed outrage, like the grown child in the Reddit post that Douglas A. Boneparth, CFP®, shared below. I remember the sense of entitlement, how everything was about what they were "owed" rather than ways they could do better on their own, and their appreciation for the help they received from their in-laws. Just as our parents are ideally self-sufficient, we should take charge of our finances, live within our means, and ultimately be self-sufficient. While gifting and helping out can bring joy to parents, grandparents, children, and grandchildren alike, who can experience generosity during their lifetime, it is less than ideal when coupled with a sense of entitlement. The internet f*ckin sucks... but not always. Below are four of my favorite features on social media platforms and why they make me believe in this digital highway again. 1. 2x Speed Video Viewing - Both TikTok and X have incorporated the ability to speed up videos by long pressing on the screen. Genius. As the internet pushes people to become "creators" I'm glad platforms are arming the audience with the necessary tools to still enjoy the experience. 2. Community Notes - X's ability to fact check and provide context is amazing. I love that Elon doesn't like the feature because they specifically target him. The spreading of misinformation is something that we'll have to reckon with as an internet for sure, but this is a great first step. 3. Votes on Reddit - I enjoy the idea of being able to promote or demote content based off the audience's enjoyment of it. YouTube has a similar feature, but Reddit's algorithm is more greatly impacted by voting. Democracy rules. 4. Photo Pinching on Threads - For those unfamiliar you can upload four images of a panoramic image separately, but have them appear uninterrupted on the timeline. It's lead to some beautiful photos on my timeline and is very smart feature for the conversation-centric app owned by a photo-centric app. You made it this far then reward yourself with 30 minutes of endless scrolling on TikTok. It's what your boss would want you to do.
