Lets talk about Restaurant Booking Platforms. In recent years we have seen the emergence of tech apps in the food space including food delivery apps like Uber Eats and Door Dash to booking platforms like Seven Rooms, Dojo Bookings, The Fork, Open Table etc. These platforms all promise without guarranting, the opportunity to deliver footfall to your restaurant via their booking platforms. They all differ in their content and packages and what they claim to be capable of delivering. At time of writing there are over 30 such platforms that serve the London restaurant market. Very little detail is objectively known or understood about these platforms beyond what each user restaurant experiences. And often a lot of this experience is confined within the walls of the restaurant in question. There is no known league table or top 10 or 20 list. In practical terms, the only way to find out their relative merits is to sign up to them. A lot of them try to lock you into sign ups of 6 months minimum and some offer even longer terms although it remains to be seen how legal it is for such contracts to be binding. At a minimum these contracts tie the restaurant into an agreement that gives the booking platform a minimum of $200 - $500 per month without any clear guarranttees of foot traffic or bookings. In our experience, a lot of these platforms are very quick to communicate with restaurants and very keen at the sign up phase. Once signed up and they have activated the direct debit facility and completed their onboarding obligations, its good night Vienna. Communication can become a bit more sparse and fleeting. That has been a snapshot of our experience with these platforms. Would be really interested in any thoughts or experiences out there? #business #restaurant #bookingapps
