It’s only a month until the formal launch of NEEC (February 20th 2024). Don’t forget to register if you haven’t already done so, and please pass this on to colleagues who may not have found the event link yet. https://lnkd.in/eHdbS__m Ahead of the session, Clare Kell and I are starting to think about some key themes to ponder, prompt, provoke and prepare so that we can really make use of our first gathering to enable discussion and help us move forward as a network. So to kick us off, we would like colleagues in the sector to be reflecting on the perennial debate about the added-value of educational developers - broadly to the sector and to individual providers in particular. Every good entrepreneurial instruction text would talk of the value of a unique selling point (USP) or unique values proposition (UVP). This begs the following questions more specifically to us then: What is an Educational Developer’s USP? What values, knowledges and skills do we bring to the sector? And why do HEIs need us? Why would they go out to market to recruit an external Educational Developer on a consultancy basis? Please join in the conversation by sharing your thoughts and insights from your practice and experience. Feel free to either comment here and we will pick your thoughts up as part of the network launch event or (preferably!) join the NEEC conversation directly here: https://lnkd.in/eaha7SdW)

🎉 Exciting Milestone Achieved! 🎉 I’m thrilled to share that I’ve recently achieved reliability on Module 2 of the Brief Observation of Social Communication Change (BOSCC)! The BOSCC is a vital tool in assessing social communication changes, especially in clinical and research settings. Gaining reliability in Module 2 was a challenging yet incredibly rewarding experience. Here are a few key takeaways from my journey: Consistent Practice: Repeatedly observing and coding interactions helped hone my skills. The more I practiced, the more intuitive the process became. Constructive Feedback: Receiving detailed feedback from mentors and peers was instrumental in refining my observational accuracy and understanding of nuanced behaviors. Attention to Detail: The smallest gestures and expressions can significantly impact social communication assessments. Developing a keen eye for these subtleties was essential. Collaboration and Discussion: Engaging with fellow practitioners allowed for the exchange of insights and techniques, enhancing my overall competency. Patience and Persistence: Achieving reliability is a rigorous process that demands patience and persistence. Every step forward, no matter how small, is progress. This achievement is not just a personal milestone but a step towards contributing more effectively to research and clinical interventions that can make a meaningful difference in social communication outcomes. A huge thank you to everyone who supported and guided me through this process. Looking forward to continuing this journey and applying these skills to advance our understanding of social communication changes! #BOSCC #SocialCommunication #ClinicalResearch #ProfessionalDevelopment #ContinuousLearning #AchievementUnlocked

Let's find out more about the Higher Education 4.0 Symposium & Exhibition 2024. The following are speaking at the event; 🗣️ William Beausang (Assistant Secretary in the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science) 🗣️ Kieran Hastings (MyCareerPath Student Learner & Merit Medical) 🗣️ JP McGonigle (Head of Business Improvement – Forward Emphasis International) 🗣️ Bridie Killoran (Career and Learning Pathways Manager – MyCareerPath) Theme: Moving from Higher Education 4.0 to Society 5.0 (At this event we will look at what type of society we are building for future generations, the role that education, employers and policymakers have to play, and as technology advances at a rapid pace what role will human skills have to play in Society 5.0) Here are some of the themes being addressed: ✅How does the brief description of HE 4.0 and Society 5.0 resonate with you and your work? ✅Are there any other big challenges for individuals, HE, Industry, and Policymakers not yet mentioned? ✅What further work needs to be done in HE, local communities, and online to increase young people and adults' access to options and routes for progression? ✅Do employers recognise and value RPL and micro-credentials? If yes, how can this be best communicated to potential /actual students? ✅Are we as a nation doing enough to promote lifelong learning and lifelong guidance to 'the man and woman on the street'? ✅How do you think we are performing compared to some of the examples Deirdre provided from other countries? Any examples of what you feel are worthy of greater attention? ✅What do you think is holding back individuals from gaining new knowledge and skills in and outside of the workplace? ✅What more could be done to ensure we have a dynamic hybrid approach to all-age guidance counselling? Your ideas are most welcome to feed into the ATU's ongoing development work. MORE INFO: https://lnkd.in/e-c2VURf #ATU #HigherEducation

Without a baseline for where your current training is now, how will you know which gaps to target when integrating cultural competence into your curriculum? One of the resources I love to share with clients is the Tool for Assessing Cultural Competence Training (TACCT) developed by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Made up of 5 Domains, or focus areas, TACCT is a self-administered survey, completed by both faculty and students, to provide information on the current state of cultural competence education within your curriculum, including experiential training. Learn more about TACCT here: https://lnkd.in/emqEPqdC 📌 In my upcoming book, SHIFT I’m excited to provide a number of tools, like TACCT, to help you enhance or gauge cultural competence within your curriculum. Last week, I attended the Introduction to Knowledge Exchange course in Coventry – and wow, it was exciting! 🌟 The course was a perfect blend of presentations and workshops, and the facilitation was 👏 Huge kudos to PraxisAuril and all the instructors. My goals for the course were to: 1. Gain a deeper understanding of the mindset behind Knowledge Exchange and its practical application. 📚 2. Expand my international network. 🌐 3. Gain insights into others' experiences in the field – especially within SSH (Humanities and Social Sciences). 🧠 I must admit, the course fully met my expectations. Here are some of my key takeaways: 1. Many already unconsciously apply Knowledge Exchange principles, so it can be valuable to create a shared understanding of KE within the organization. 🤝 2. Surveys show that researchers are interested in KE, but a lack of time challenges their ability to explore how KE can strengthen their research. How can we address this? ⏳ 3. There is no definitive guide for SSH – nor should there be. It’s about being bold and exploring new areas, potentials, and synergies within your own organization. 🚀 4. Continuous use and exploration of networks for experiences and support are crucial – you rarely stand alone. 🤗 A big thank you to all the other participants for some inspiring and exciting days. I look forward to following your journey. 🌟 I've put together a short video of the trip to show off the highlights of these inspiring days. I look forward to sharing more experiences from the course in the future. #university #coventry #ssh #shape
