𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗗 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹! For my friends who think COVID was a hoax : as an actuary, I deal with insurance data. Insurance companies don't pay unnecessary claims. During COVID, total life insurance claims went up significantly. This excellent Society of Actuaries research paper estimates 1.47 million excess deaths in the US between Mar 2020 and Feb 2023. Of these, only 0.97 million were recorded COVID deaths, suggesting under-reporting of COVID deaths, as well as COVID making you susceptible to other causes of death. Recommended reading for life / health / pensions / social security actuaries. #COVID19 #excessmortality
