In this episode, we focus on the emerging discourse from the 1990s on how automated systems would potentially change the very meaning of work. The discussion is on a seminal work of Susan Leigh Star and co-author Anselm Strauss, “Layers of Silence, Arenas of Voice: The Ecology of Visible and Invisible Work,” published in CSCW’s flagship journal, Computer-Supported Cooperative Work, in 1999. The article focuses on the challenges and risks of automating work processes without due consideration of all the invisible work done in an organization that systems designers might overlook. Moreover, it addresses the unintended consequences of making invisible background work visible, such as making it easier for managers to monitor and control. #taop #visiblework #invisiblework

Excited about the evolving landscape of library software? In our latest exploration, we've identified five key aspects that administrators and librarians should look for in advancing their library software: 1️⃣ Online Searching Visibility: Empower librarians with strategic insights into collection development through online catalogs. Analyze search stats, identify trends, and optimize budget allocations. No patron info linked to results. Leading products offer easy reporting for actionable strategies. 2️⃣ Reporting on Intended Audience Level: Unlock strategic collection management by understanding a catalog's intended audience level. Librarians get a comprehensive overview from their own MARC records that have information from authors and publishers. A must-have feature for ensuring the right books reach the right audience. 3️⃣ Encryption of Transmissions: Prioritize data security with encryption. Extend protection beyond data storage to data transmission across the hosted environment. Our up-to-date encryption setup ensures all data lives within a secure environment. 4️⃣ Cost vs. Functionality: Examine both current expenditure and value when upgrading systems. Secure hosted software, now a standard, offers substantial cost savings over time. Modern library systems provide patron services, adaptable notifications, and automatic renewals. Top products simplify cataloging and enhance efficiency. 5️⃣ Future-Proof: Explore hosted software built for the future! Prioritize longevity and adaptability for continued relevance. Our resilient architecture facilitates zero downtime updates, ensuring efficiency and sustainability without straining IT departments. 💡 #LibrarySoftware #Innovation #FutureReady #Librarianship

💫 Archiving by design is an approach that has been sought after for a long time and enables digital archiving. The challenge has been the lack of system support adapted to follow established principles. This week, it’s time for Arkeion - Föreningen för arkiv och informationsförvaltning, a meeting place for all those working with information management. Among the speakers is TAM-Arkiv, who will talk about how MetaShare Orbit has streamlined the archiving process, reduced the risk of errors and inconsistencies, and increased compliance with laws and regulations regarding the preservation and disposal of documents 💫 https://lnkd.in/dSCM3Kxd
MetaShare Orbit archives documents to be preserved and sifts through those to be deleted. Automatically and completely according to set rules.
