Recently the young people at our Milton Keynes site were paid a visit by Kayode from the charity Alternatives To Conflict who came to give a talk on the importance of finding healthy ways to resolve conflict as part of a Wellbeing Session for our learners. We'd like to thank Kayode and the rest of the staff from Alternatives To Conflict for all their helpful advice.

I met Jim Vickrage today - amazing to hear the work The National Forest are doing & have done, across the midlands. Nearly 10m trees planted 🌲 And so what....? Many people are concerned about IHT & a little known opportunity - if you gift >10% of your chargeable estate, to charity, the overall rate of IHT applied will reduce from 40% to 36%. 🙌 ✅ Lower IHT bill ✅ Charity(ies) benefit I would always advocate keeping wills up to date & if you're considering such a gift, speak to a professional, rather than just 'assuming'. There are rules & some maths to consider. #financialplanning #enjoythejourney

Meet Torin, another dedicated member of the Casualties Union charity. 'I volunteer knowing I can contribute to improving casualty care in a different way. Whilst portraying a patient I am able to observe what treatment is given and, at the end of an exercise, can debrief on things such as communication with the casualty as well as handling.' Although providing feedback on these areas seems like just a minor part in the overall care of a casualty, it can greatly improve the care experience received by them. This innovative perspective brings a fresh angle to emergency response teams training, providing insight into potential problems. #UniqueContribution #VolunteerImpact #InnovativeApproach #EnhancingEmergencyResponse 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 - 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 Contact: 0870 0780 590 Email: hq@casualtiesunion.org.uk Website: https://lnkd.in/eRsQFj7F

Getting #accessibility right is hard work. I worked in charities for a long time. We wanted to make things better for all our users - but often didn't have the time or money to learn how to do this properly. So we'd look to third party solutions - overlays and add-ons that promised to do the hard work for us. But as this article from Joanna Kao demonstrates, these solutions are only skimming the surface. There's no substitute for researching with users who have access needs, finding out how they interact with sites and services and understanding their actual needs - something I've learned from working with Calum Ryan, CWP and Chris Sutton. That initial outlay on staff training and paying research participants appropriately for their time and expertise could end up saving your organisation from paying a hefty annual fee for a service that isn't doing what you need it to. https://lnkd.in/dGGVxtVf

How can we transform our community? Some say charity begins at home. And we believe in creating a family environment to nurture our Obsidian employees, the communities we work in and then to support and extended family in times of need. It's been a tough year and, we will continue to support #SantaShoeboxes and Thandanani House of Refuge. #MakeADifferenceDay #SantaShoeboxes https://bit.ly/3jFTZ8N If you are stuck with any ideas for you to contribute personally go to https://bit.ly/3C7F0Oz

Be Kind - Be Grateful…the next 5 actions you can take to make the world more kind and caring. #34 – Create an alumni group where colleagues share stories of kindness and its impact, inspiring others to pay it froward and continue the cycle of good will. #33 – With Christmas coming, if you have toys that your children do not play with anymore, consider giving them to charities or goodwill stores so less fortunate children can have a toy under the tree this year. #32 – If you have unredeemed loyalty points that will not be used, if available, consider donating them to charity rather than having them expire. #31 – Hosting a holiday party, rather than say to your quests, please bring nothing. Help your local food bank and ask them to bring a non-perishable food item. Set out a box at your front door and see what your family and friends give back to the community. I think you will be surprised. #30 – Put together a ‘Health and Happiness Box’ for a teacher, pastor, or a person in need. This box might have some home baked cookies, healthy snacks, candle, bath salts and a note of thanks.
