Being high or mentally altered through substances should not be a crime. To promote life-enhancing experiences for people who use drugs, it is essential to address life-diminishing factors through a combination of policy reform, housing stability, and the expansion of evidence-based, person-centered healthcare services. This includes initiatives such as decriminalization, legal framework for opioid and stimulant use and low-barrier access to treatment and harm reduction resources on demand. #SubstanceUse #HarmReduction #SubstanceUseHealthcare #PWUD #Peers #HumanRights #Healthcare #RightToGetHigh

Why do we criminalize certain kinds of intoxications while legalizing intoxication from another substance? Your drug of choice is not morally superior than another person’s drug of choice. Humans aren’t the only ones that enjoy getting high/intoxicated. Animals like to obtain and enjoy psychoactive substances. Some of the animals’ choices of drugs: 1. Bighorn sheep would go to great lengths to consume a specific type of lichen found in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. They scrape this lichen off rocks with their teeth, even to the point of wearing their teeth down, to experience its effects . 2. Reindeers’ drug of choice is agaric mushrooms. After consuming these hallucinogenic mushrooms, reindeers would display ‘carefree’ behaviours such as running aimlessly, having muscle spams and they will make noises too. 3. Wallabies share humans’ fondness for opiums. They have been reported to enter poppy fields in Tasmania, consume the plants, get toxicated and would run in circles. 4. Cats’ drug of choice is catnip, which contains nepeltalactome which can induce intense euphoria in domestic and wild cats. After consuming catnip, cats would chase imaginary objects, rolling around and rubbing. #SubstanceUse #LegalHigh #PWUD #Healthcare #HarmReductionWorks #HarmReductionSavesLives
