Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s contributions to the fight for equality and justice. Among the many leaders of the civil rights movement, Dr. King helped define the fight for equal employment in the form of better jobs and equal wages for minorities. Dr. King organized strikes and boycotts against discriminatory employers who refused to hire African Americans or pay them fair wages. His work brought awareness to the issues while inspiring others to stand up against societal injustice. We honor his legacy and strive to follow his example as we work toward a better more equal world.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His tireless fight for justice and equality changed our nation profoundly. Yet 55 years after his assassination, we still have work to do to fulfill his dream. As executive recruiters, we have a responsibility and opportunity to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through our hiring practices. We can thoughtfully examine biases that stand in the way of recognizing talent and potential in all people, regardless of race, gender, or background. We can help give a fair chance to those historically denied opportunities to advance and succeed. The activism of MLK and other civil rights leaders was rooted in nonviolence, love, and redemption - not retaliation or defeat. They called out injustice and challenged oppressive systems, while still seeing the humanity in those responsible. As Dr. King said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Let us honor MLK by carrying forward his compassionate spirit and moral courage. Let us have the difficult conversations on discrimination and structural barriers that still limit people. And let us act constructively, with open minds and hearts, to create workplaces and a society that gives everyone an equal chance to thrive. The arc of progress is long, but with a shared commitment to justice and inclusion, we can continue bending it toward Dr. King’s vision.
