Looking forward to today's INSAT ~ Initiative for Sustainable Aviation Technologies of Canada webinar and learning more about opportunities to accelerate sustainable aviation technologies in Canada!
WEBINAR ON JANUARY 11TH Three and a half years ago, a small team embarked on an effort to establish a Canadian green aviation technology consortium—an ecosystem of Canadian talent—to accelerate the industry’s efforts to meet net-zero targets. It was incorporated in February 2023. In June 2023, at the Paris Air Show, Minister Champagne publicly announced the government’s support of $350 million (2023-2030). Industry contributions will bring the total project expenditures to over $850 million. Thus, INSAT/INTAD was born (Initiative for Sustainable Aviation Technology™ / Initiative pour une technologie aéronautique durable™) (www.insat.aero). Since then, efforts have focused on setting up the team and operations. The Director General, Michel Dion, was announced on 8 January 2024. There is a 6-person interim board to support the DG and his support team. INSAT has a signed Contribution Agreement with the Canadian government, and a Master Project Agreement (MPA) is nearing completion. A logo competition was completed through the Canadian Mobility and Aerospace Institute (CMAI) with post-secondary students across the country. Mathilde Picard’s logo was selected from a very creative group of submissions. Today, we are announcing a webinar on 11 January 2024 from 1 p.m to 2:30 p.m (E.T) to launch the first formal project call. We look forward to seeing you on the webinar. Good round-up by Jonathan Hemmerdinger at FlightGlobal of test progress for the CFM International (CFM) RISE open-fan engine. GE Aerospace engineering VP Mohammed Ali says that testing by CFM partner Safran shows the design will deliver “significant fuel-burn improvement” and be more durable. Ali adds that conventional turbofan architecture could only be 20% more efficient if its core burned at “half the temperature of the sun’s surface”. He also states that “open-fan technology has the capability to achieve lower noise than today’s Leap”. Full article (sub needed): https://lnkd.in/eRMEqx-A

This stunning hydrogen-powered aircraft concept model by DLR truly caught my eye during ILA Berlin - Pioneering Aerospace 2024. It led to an insightful conversation with Mr. Rudy Cepeda Gomez from German Aerospace Center (DLR). And during the conversation Mr. Capeda goes like: “What’s our job… our job is not to provide answers at first but to ask questions. A lot and lots of questions.” Initially, It didn’t strike me the weight of that statement. But now when I think about it I realised that if Newton hadn't questioned why the apple fell downward, and not in any other direction we might never have understood gravity. Similarly, if Archimedes hadn't questioned why the water level rose when he immersed himself in the bathtub, we wouldn't have discovered the law of buoyancy. There's still so much to uncover in the fields of sustainable aviation and synthetic aviation fuels like Cryogenic storage, Volumetric density, Hydrogen production and supply chain, Fuel cells and engine, weight and balance, economic factors and the list goes on. These discoveries can only happen if we continually ask questions—many, many questions. Thank you, Rudy Cepeda Gomez for making me understand the importance of asking questions. It was amazing talking to you. #Innovation #SustainableAviation #HydrogenPower #Curiosity #Research #Aviation #SyntheticFuels #ILA #DLR #ILA2024 #DLRaviation

Our Founder & CEO, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Josef Kallo sat down with Aerospace Testing International to discuss our latest achievements and provide an outlook on the future of sustainable aviation. The biggest barrier to the widespread adoption of zero-emission aircraft? Fossil fuels as we use them today are far too cheap. Josef shares: "As with any innovative technological advancement, the world needs to grow in confidence, which then leads to acceptance. A way to speed this process up is through government and expert acceptance, which we’re already starting to see through EU-funded research programs. However, there needs to be an increase in the money spent on R&D and infrastructure across the globe." Read the full interview via the link in the comments. #SustainableAviation #Innovation
