A successful project meeting at LK Scandinavia, where Markus L. demonstrated the latest scanning technology from Nikon. The meeting was part of the research project Digital quality assurance for sustainable industry, DigiQ, that aims to realize a digital quality assurance process that can be scaled up and enable an efficient, sustainable, and competitive global production. If you want to hear more about the project, save the date and come to Wingquist Laboratory's annual seminar on Digital Product Realization 7 May 2024, where results from the project will be presented! ABOUT DIGIQ All manufacturing involves geometric variations, impacting a product's function, safety, and aesthetics. To minimize these effects, a geometrically assured production is needed. DigiQ aims to realize a coherent, efficient process where seamless digital communication takes place between both systems and actors. The project focuses on four technical key enablers: digital requirement specification, fixture-independent inspection, automatic configuration of inspection cells, and virtual evaluation. The project is a collaboration between Wingquistlaboratoriet, Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre for Industrial Mathematics, Saab Aeronautics, Volvo Cars, LK Scandinavia, RD&T Technology, Industrial Path Solutions - IPS and PolyWorks Scandinavia AB. 🆘 Just Surviving in the AM Industry? Why Not Lead Instead ❓ 🔗 Referenced Report: "A Path to Survival in Additive Manufacturing" by Dr. Wilderich Heising, Dominik Deradjat, Thomas Krüger and Daniel Kuepper from Boston Consulting Group (BCG): https://lnkd.in/gZQveCp8 Is the #AdditiveManufacturing industry merely about staying afloat in a sea of challenges 🤔 Beyond Just Stable Growth 💪: AM's growth has settled at 15-20% yearly. While some view this as a slowdown from the initial 30-50%, isn't it a sign of the industry maturing and stabilizing ❓ Innovation Over Status Quo 🏭: Giants like GE and HP are advancing with groundbreaking technologies. Shouldn't this inspire us to rethink efficiency and innovation rather than just follow the old paths ❓ Consolidation or Opportunity? 🌐: The industry is consolidating, presenting challenges for smaller startups. But isn't this also a chance for strategic alliances and innovative breakthroughs ❓ Unleashing New Applications 🚀: The industry is propelled by innovative applications in fields like 3D bioprinting and aerospace. Isn't this indicative of a vibrant and evolving sector ❓ Automating for the Future 🤖: The shift towards automating the AM process is crucial for quality and cost-effectiveness. Isn't automation a key to future-proofing our industry ❓ Do we just want to survive, or are we ready to redefine the rules and lead 🚀

Composites make our tires what they are; a high-tech response to a paradoxical set of requirements, allowing them to firmly grip, despite a meticulously light build. To brake, but last. And of course, offering them flexibility, yet resistance. But our obsession with tires goes beyond their exceptional performance. Composites are key to the world of tomorrow, meaning they reconcile frugality, excellence and preservation of the planet sustainably. Little-known to most, the lessons and know-how gleaned from developing Michelin tires, the ultimate composite, actually appear in a range of other composites such as coated fabrics, belts, conveyors domains for various sectors, from industry to aeronautics and medicine. This ultra-big picture is what we're focused on, and the reason we now proudly refer to our mission as manufacturing life-changing composites and experiences.

🛫Airbus-EOS Study Reveals DMLS as a Game-Changer for Sustainable Aerospace Manufacturing🛬 An Airbus and EOS study highlights Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) as a superior sustainable manufacturing method over traditional investment casting. Focused on an Airbus A320 nacelle hinge bracket, the research evaluated the environmental lifecycle from raw material to end use. Initial findings showed DMLS significantly reduces CO2 emissions—up to 40%—primarily through weight savings enabled by its design flexibility and titanium usage. This translates to a 10kg reduction per aircraft, offering considerable "buy-to-fly" ratio improvements. Further examination with identical titanium materials for both DMLS and casting methods revealed DMLS's enhanced efficiency. Not only did it minimize energy consumption compared to casting, but it also cut titanium waste by 25%, owing to its precision in using only necessary materials. This phase underscored DMLS's potential for optimizing design and supporting low-volume production with fewer environmental impacts. Jon Meyer from Airbus noted DMLS's role in fostering sustainable, light part manufacturing with minimal CO2 footprint, urging the manufacturing sector to consider additive manufacturing (AM) for future sustainable solutions. As AM technology evolves, its ability to match the speed and cost of traditional methods could make it indispensable for eco-friendly manufacturing. —- Photo: AOL Precision’s printed part —-
