Indonesia, as a nation, is relatively young; however, its rich tapestry of diverse cultural groups, spread across thousands of islands, has existed for centuries prior to the country's formation. This cultural diversity continues to shape how each group interprets a meaningful life, both individually and communally.
The term "sejahtera" in Indonesian is commonly used to describe a quality of life that is fulfilling and satisfying, encompassing physical, mental, spiritual, material, and social well-being. While "sejahtera" is a general term within Indonesian society, the cultural diversity among ethnic groups influences the specific determinants they prioritize. For instance, some cultures emphasize material wealth as a key factor in life's meaning, whereas others value modesty as a hallmark of personal excellence.
Despite these differences, many cultural groups share a common emphasis on the importance of religiosity, spirituality, and meaningful social relationships as essential determinants of ‘sejahtera’.
