Magnetic gripping has advantages over traditional mechanical gripping. Magnets only need one side of the part exposed for gripping whereas traditional parallel gripper covers 3 sides of the part when gripped. Magnets allow for more work to be done because regripping the part is not required. 🤖 Why haven’t robots reached their full capabilities yet? This is the big question we and the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) are looking to answer in a potential new challenge prize that we hope to launch next year. Robotics systems have been designed for specific, repetitive tasks in highly controlled and structured environments, but they still struggle with basic tasks outside their design scope, and lack dexterity and precision. Our hope is that a new robotics dexterity challenge prize will change the conversation globally about robotic capabilities.
