🌍 Global Climate & Carbon Dioxide Removal goals cannot be met without restoring African soils to health. 🌱 Soil is the largest terrestrial carbon reservoir, storing twice as much carbon as the atmosphere & vegetation combined: 2500Pg C. 📕 30%: of land on the planet that is severely degraded. 📗 60%: of all arable land on the planet is in Africa. 📘 40%: of Africa’s agricultural lands are degraded from overuse of synthetic fertilizers & conventional agricultural practices. 📙 60%: increase in food production required by 2050. 📔 3 X: the increase by which climate impacts will be felt in Africa. 📚 4%: Africa’s contribution to global CO2 emissions. 🌏 We all have an an existential interest in supporting those working on the front lines of climate. The world is long overdue in recognizing the critical importance of soil health to: solving climate; scaling CDR; food, water & yes, energy, security; reducing CO2 emissions from agriculture (17% of global CO2) & adjacent industries; reducing short lived but powerful climate pollutants; climate adaptation; biodiversity (underpins 90% of the global economy); national security; and so much more. 🌎 We all have an urgent interest in supporting teams working hard, often unseen and undercelebrated, to turn on the capacity of African soils to drawdown & store CO2, provide ecosystem services, & feed the planet. 💫 Please support this team in their work to restore East African soils and the talented organizations and individuals working across Africa to restore local soil health. 🚀 If you work in climate, CDR, finance, biodiversity, impact, investing, or luxury goods & businesses with biodiversity exposure, invest in Africa, its soils, its people, its climate & social impact entrepreneurs. It’s the smartest investment you’ll ever make with an ROI that’s off the charts. Black Mamba is proudly #GenerationRestoration 🌱🔥🌶️🌍 Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay2024, and this year's theme is #OurLandOurFuture: Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience. Did you know that the cure to fix our planet is right under our feet?! Regenerative agriculture is a complete game-changer that can actually help us to slow down climate change. Read more about this amazing set of farming principles on our blog, and how our southern African partner Guba impartings knowledge that helps small-scale farmers like our Eswatini suppliers to go beyond merely sustaining the soil and our planet, to actually leave it better than we found it. 📢 Heard at #ClimateWeek: ⏳ We often talk about the life expectancy of our degraded soils. A decade ago it was projected by the United Nations FAO that we had just 60 harvests left, a message meant to create urgency and which has continued to be amplified and debated ever since. 👣 Alongside this urgency, though, we also need hope and a pathway to activate change. 🌎 To me, the statement below from agroecologist Timothy Bowles at a recent Climate Week event serves as a simple but powerful reminder that the natural progression then, is to a narrative that tells us where to go next. 🎯 Healthy, living soil that can regenerate and live on without an expiration date is that place. It serves as the foundation for thriving, regenerative agriculture and food systems that support healthy people, healthy communities, healthy climate and a healthy planet. #soil #soilhealth #regeneration #agroecology #farming #climatemitigation #climateadaptation

“The yields of certain crops in Africa have already dropped by several percentage points, because of warming and drought. So, you can’t possibly talk about sustainable agriculture without talking about climate change,” says Professor Guy Midgley, Head of the School for Climate Studies at Stellenbosch University, South Africa via Forbes Africa While our SecondSky crop covers show improvements in only one season, ultimately we are passionate about the long-term global effects of our technologies, in the face of a growing climate change crisis. We believe that by advancing commercial farming for low to mid-tech farmers in hot climates globally, we can mitigate the risks of climate change and foster a more sustainable, food-secure future. BIER member PepsiCo is building a more resilient food system through the power of regenerative agriculture. On this #WorldSoilDay, learn more about their commitment to healthier farmland, supporting farmers' livelihoods, strengthening biodiversity, and addressing climate change. #EnvironmentalSustainability #RegenerativeAgriculture #Bevco
We’re focused on supporting a more resilient food system — starting with the soil. That’s why we’re working with farmers to build healthier farmland from the ground up. By investing in regenerative agriculture worldwide, we’re working to promote soil health at the farm level while also aiming to help support the livelihoods of farmers, strengthen biodiversity, and combat the impacts of climate change. As part of #WorldSoilDay, we’re sharing some of the soil health programs and partnerships we’re supporting in the United States, the United Kingdom, India and beyond: https://lnkd.in/eUabJkVa

Happy World Soil Day! 🌱 Today, we celebrate the crucial role soil plays in food security, climate resilience, and ecosystem health. Soil is more than just dirt—it’s the foundation of our food systems, a key player in the water cycle, and a powerful ally in the fight against climate change! Yet, degraded soil threatens biodiversity, water retention, and carbon storage, leaving us vulnerable to floods, droughts, and food insecurity. Did you know.. we lose 24 billion tons of fertile soil every year to erosion? 😱 The solution? Regenerative agriculture. By supporting practices like: 🌾 No-till farming 🌱 Cover cropping 🌳 Agroforestry ...we can: ✅ Restore soil health and fertility ✅ Improve water retention and prevent erosion ✅ Boost biodiversity and create resilient ecosystems ✅ Turn agricultural fields into carbon sinks World Soil Day reminds us that healthy soil is essential for food security, climate resilience, and biodiversity. Let’s commit to supporting regenerative agriculture and protecting this invaluable resource! #WorldSoilDay #RegenerativeAgriculture #SoilHealth #ClimateAction #Biodiversity
