This Earth Day, I pledge to repair 🌍🪡 The fashion industry is one of the most environmentally destructive and polluting industries in the world. Repair is a core part of slowing down fashion waste and extending the life of garments. We launched Pledge to Repair this Earth Month to do just that. We’re calling for collective action to help make repair a core part of the UK fashion industry. Join the movement by signing the pledge to repair https://lnkd.in/gbPD-MKb 🧵 Repost to show your commitment to repairing instead of replacing to help reduce textile waste 💙 #pledgetorepair

WOOL MONTH Wool is where it’s at! When it comes to the future of sustainable fashion, zero waste clothing and furnishing, well-being and innovation, all roads lead to wool. This is not surprising, the wool industry has been developing technology to go from fleece to fashion for thousands of years. It’s only been in the last few decades that the petrochemical industry has flooded the market with cheap plastic yarns, wreaking havoc on the environment and the mental well-being of people constantly craving junk fast fashion. Question: What does SB707 have to do with Fashion, Fashion Waste & Fashion Reimagined? SB707 aims to tackle waste and overproduction in the fashion industry by mandating clothing companies in California to implement reuse, repair, upcycling, and recycling programs. This move is vital as the fashion sector stands as the fastest-growing waste stream in the US, with only 15% of textiles being recycled per the EPA. The Responsible Textile Recovery Act would breathe new life into clothing items, promoting repair, resale, repurposing, remanufacturing, or recycling into fresh materials. Fast fashion's emphasis on short-lived, trendy pieces exacerbates the waste crisis by overlooking durability. Holding companies financially responsible for their products' entire lifecycle would drive sustainability efforts ahead of profit motives. #FashionIndustry #Sustainability #WasteReduction

If there is one thing worse than mercilessly exploiting nature and humans to inflate mere digits on a screen, it's #GREENWASHING! It blatantly and intentionally deceives the people who actually DO CARE about the #environment and #whomademyclothes. First of all, even if #recycling occurs, it demands energy and water- making it not only expensive but also environmentally unsustainable. While promising recycling that never happens, it merely propels consumption, adding yet another lorry full of fashion waste to landfills every minute (a better description than visualizing millions of tons of trash). Thirty percent of that clothes still bear a price tag, and forty percent are worn only once. Most of the "pre-loved" garments were never 'actually' loved and often find themselves in a cycle of being impulsively purchased, left unworn, and eventually discarded... It's not JUST clothes- the plastic industry does the same. I seriously can't understand that shortsightedness- don't the regulators and business owners have children, grandchildren? Because it's about the world they will be living in... https://lnkd.in/dsZCT-S2

„The fashion industry accounts for around 3-10% of global GHG emissions.“ (McKinsey) Needless to say, that we have a responsibility to reduce the carbon footprint of our industry. With our pigment-based inks and dyes, textile manufacturers can bypass energy-intensive production steps, such as high-temperature washing, steaming and additional drying from their #textilecoloration process. By doing so, they can substantially reduce their energy consumption and significantly cut their carbon emissions. #Pigments, therefore, positively contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of combating climate change and its impacts (#SDG13). #saveenergy

Did you know that yearly, around 500,000 tons of microfibres end up in the ocean from washing clothes? It's like having 50 billion plastic bottles dumped into the water. Unfortunately, these tiny fibres get absorbed by plankton and start accumulating in our food chains. What's worse is that polyester, unlike other materials, doesn't break down in the ocean. This means that the plastic pollution caused by it cannot be removed from nature. However, there is a solution – we can change the way clothes are made. At #Priddlestix, we believe in using plant-based materials instead of plastic to make our clothes. We also encourage our customers to send back our products so we can recycle and reuse them. It's called the circular fashion economy, and it's at the core of our collection. We want to make a positive impact by reducing the harm caused to our beautiful ocean. If you're interested in reading more about our commitment to a cleaner ocean, check out our blog post: https://lnkd.in/dkPpy4i3 We would appreciate your support in this cause. Together, we can make a difference and protect our oceans for future generations. #circulareconomy #sustainablefashion #oceanpollution #microfibrepollution #plantbasedmaterials #sustainablesupplychain #ecofriendlyapparel #environmentalimpact #responsiblefashionchoices

The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions. That's equivalent to the emissions of the entire European Union. It doesn't stop there. Producing one cotton shirt requires about 700 gallons of water. A pair of jeans? Around 2,000 gallons. The dyeing process is the world's second-largest polluter of water. By making conscious choices and supporting sustainable practices, we can help reduce these impacts. Learn more about the environmental footprint of fashion and how you can make a difference. 🌱 #Sustainability #ClimateAction #GreenBusiness #TheCarbonStamp Link: https://lnkd.in/giUgF8D7

How much of your wardrobe do you actually wear? 🤔 If the answer’s less than 100%, it’s time to rethink how (and how much!) we shop. Swipe through for some eye-opening facts: 👉 92 million tons of textile waste is generated every year. 👉 2,700 liters of water is used to make just one T-shirt. 👉 25% of chemicals produced worldwide are used for textiles. 👉 Yet the average person only wears about 20% of their wardrobe. Something is definitely wrong with this picture. This Secondhand September, let's pledge to wear more of what we already own and shop as responsibly as we can! ♻️ #SecondHandSeptember #Sustainability #WFXCares #fashiontechnology

California's new fashion legislation is a game-changer for sustainability! By pushing brands to take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of their products, we are moving closer to a true circular economy that prioritizes textile recycling and reuse. This important step could set the standard for other states to follow, shifting the future of fashion to one that's less wasteful and more mindful. #textilerecycling #circulareconomy #slowfashion #sustainability #bof https://lnkd.in/egw5Meg7

Do you update your wardrobe seasonally?🌿 STOP! 🔴 So many of our unwanted items end up here 👇 Whilst fast fashion companies are slowly bringing in the ability to send your old unwanted clothes back for recycling over 30% of old unwanted clothes end up in landfills in the UK alone each year. 👚 We need to start thinking more responsibly, investing in quality, staple pieces to wear year after year, or exploring second-hand platforms like Vinted and Depop. It's true that one person’s trash is another’s treasure. 🏆 Next time you discard your unwanted clothing, consider recycling the correct way, this way textiles can be repurposed and turned into new items such as pet bedding, carpet underlay, and even new clothing. #thinkresponsible #Sustainable #ReduceWaste #circulareconomy
