Did you know? More than 1 in 3 women and nearly 1 in 4 men have experienced sexual violence. This statistic underscores the importance of this year's theme for Sexual Assault Awareness Month: #BuildingConnectedCommunities. Connected communities play a vital role in combating sexual violence by fostering environments of support, understanding, and empowerment. When communities come together, they can break the silence surrounding sexual violence, provide vital resources and support for survivors, and promote healthy relationships built on respect and consent. By building connected communities, we can create a world where everyone feels safe, supported, and empowered. #SAAM #SupportSurvivors #BuildingConnectedCommunities

April is a significant month as CAN Community Health comes together to recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). It’s a time to raise our voices, spread awareness and stand in solidarity against sexual violence. This year’s “Building Connected Communities” campaign launched by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, highlights the crucial role of inclusive, equitable and connected communities in the fight against abuse, assault and harassment. In our journey towards building a more compassionate world for all, it’s vital to educate ourselves, advocate for others and actively challenge harmful attitudes and behaviors that may contribute negatively to the health and well-being of survivors. Survivors of sexual violence can find resources from the National Sexual Assault Hotline, a confidential 24/7 support center online at online.rainn.org or at (800)656-4673. Together, let’s break the silence and promote a culture of consent and accountability. #SAAM #SAAM2024 #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth #BreakTheSilence #BuildingConnectedCommunities #CANCommunityHealth

And horrifically children who disclose sexual abuse perpetrated by their fathers are, more often than not, not believed by family court judges and ordered into the sole custody of their abuser with no contact with their safe parent. Absolutely shocking but every day more children are trafficked back to pedophiles they’ve escaped through the family court systems. This is big business child trafficking. The perpetrator judges are protected. By the boys’ club. By gag laws. By the sheer disbelief that any normal person would have that this level of corruption couldn’t be possible! As pedophile priests hid behind a veil of decency and a charade of caring for children so do perpetrator judges. Not a lot of difference. Robe and wig wearing and rituals to instil fear and assert power. Very similar culture and tactics and control mechanisms. The ultimate space for tyrannical evildoers to sit upon a throne ordering people to do your bidding. Everyone that’s had interaction with the family court knows these unfathomable injustices are being perpetrated on children and to date no one has done anything to stop it. The Chief Justice “watches” and refuses to do his job to protect children from sexual abuse and institutional betrayal. The level of human evil in this court will utterly shock the general public. Children of the family court are the fourth stolen generation to have childhoods stolen and to suffer institutional torture and abuse. The stolen generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, forced adoption children, Catholic Church children and now family court children. This is the level of cruelty unleashed in what is supposed to be a court of law but everyone knows is a den of iniquity. How many more children will be ordered into child sex slavery by perpetrator judges? The numbers harmed are already unfathomable! Anthony Albanese you must act now!
For children and young people, the decision to disclose can be extremely difficult, and a negative response to disclosure - such as not being believed - can inflict significant harm, leading to devastating long-term impacts and a lost opportunity to prevent further abuse. We recently explored this critical issue in our In Conversation webinar, 'Understanding and responding to disclosures of child sexual abuse from children and young people'.
