At the #WorldUnseen exhibition in Kenya, we hosted a thought-provoking panel discussion on "Framing the Unseen: Championing Inclusivity in Photography and Visual Storytelling." It was an inspiring conversation with six incredible panelists who brought unique perspectives from photography, filmmaking, braille transcription, and advocacy. Discussions ranged from leveraging technology to make visual stories accessible for visually impaired audiences, to how wildlife, travel, and documentary photography can evolve to foster inclusion. From wildlife photographer, Paras Chandaria’s insights on capturing nature’s beauty for all to experience, to documentary photographer & Canon Certified Trainer, Georgina Goodwin and Filmmaker, Peter Ndungu’s ideas on adapting visual storytelling for inclusivity, each perspective offered a roadmap toward a more equitable creative industry. We also heard from Senior Braille Transcriber at KNLS, Njoroge James, who emphasized the transformative role of technology in bridging gaps, and Advocacy office at KSB- Ivan Mwangi, who shed light on the challenges and opportunities for visually impaired individuals in Kenya. Yagazie Emezi, Canon Ambassador, spoke passionately about using her platform to champion diversity and inclusion in the creative world. This panel reinforced the belief that photography is more than visuals—it’s about emotions, stories, and connections. Together, we can break barriers and ensure creativity is accessible to all. From series, Aves. Looking at the birds that visit my garden. The aim of the work is to move away from the traditional perspective of bird photography and instead look to the mysterious and precarious world birds occupy. A world full of dangers from predators, disease and climate change, one in which each day becomes a fight for survival. The images are meant to convey these sensibilities and reflect not only on the birds struggle for existence but also how the images become a metaphor for the wider sense of our survival in an increasingly unstable and uncertain world.

Fractional VP of Growth at Planet Wild - 🚀 Freelance CMO helping seed & series A greentech & nature-tech startups hit their revenue targets - PhD in Chemistry 🧪 ( = not your conventional CMO)
They wrecked the seabed for profit. He fought back with art. This is Paolo Farnucelli: Fisherman. Sea guardian. Nature hero. Over the years, he watched his beloved waters wrecked by one of the most devastating fishing methods: Bottom trawling. This is where massive nets are dragged along the seabed, destroying everything in its path. 💰All to maximize profit. “Where is the respect for nature?” Paolo asks. When governments turned a blind eye and corporations continued to profit, Paolo refused to stay silent. Then, after decades of fighting to stop this destruction, he had a genius idea: 🎨 Underwater art that fights back. How? He places sculptures on the seabed to destroy trawling nets and grab the world’s attention. Artists from all the world joined his cause. As did our community. In our most recent Planet Wild mission, we funded: 🗿 5 sculptures added to underwater museum 🧱 40 protective blocks installed to protect Mediterranean coastline When Paolo stands on the shore of the Mediterranean, he doesn’t just see water. He sees history, family, and a future worth fighting for. Because the ocean isn’t just Paolo’s livelihood. It’s his legacy—and all of ours. 🌍 Let’s protect it, together. If you could create underwater sculptures, what would they look like?

One of my favorite things to do is to attend the lectures at the National Geographic Society. There, you can hear the stories behind the stories that make their way into the magazine with the yellow border. Writers and photographers go behind the scenes and in-depth into their stories. https://bit.ly/3U02IHN #briantarallo #visualfacilitator #graphicrecorder #visualpractitioner #visuallearning #lizardbrain

Have you seen the 2024 World Press Photo award winners yet? It is perhaps the premier photo award contest for capturing the state of the world right now. The World Press Photo award winners combine the meaning of the “decisive moment” – when the photographer is right there for that one unique shot – with a long-term view of the meaning of the story. The photo journeys are really not about art, events or visuals. This is about capturing the human emotion as we go through sometimes immense challenges and tragedy. Earthquakes, wars, floods, fighting fires and saving the wild. There is loss, but there is also hope from the human resilience. Plus, of course, the quality of the professional execution of these images is unrivalled. See these incredible pictures yourself and take a moment to reflect. You can explore all the award winners by regions: https://lnkd.in/d7xKuW_c #creativity #vision #photography #crisis #geopolitics #worldpressphoto #climatechange #migration #conflict
