Meta inks deal with Pine Gate for new 204-MW solar project Pine Gate Renewables and Meta announced the execution of an agreement for the renewable attributes from a Pine Gate solar project located in Temple, Texas. The 204-MW Limewood Bell Solar Project in Bell County is expected to be operational in 2026 and is located just seven miles away from Meta’s Temple Data Center. The project is important to Meta’s continued commitment to net zero emissions and 100% renewable energy for its global operations. Pine Gate prioritizes flexibility, proactive communication and transparent development in its partnerships to help large energy customers realize their sustainability goals. Repsol has completed the construction its largest solar plant in the US. Frye Solar is located in Kress, Texas, and has an installed capacity of 637MW, with 570MW now in operation. The array is comprised of almost one million solar panels. Repsol has already signed a long-term power purchase agreement for 89% of the output from this project as part of its strategy to lock in returns for this type of asset. "Repsol views completion of our largest U.S. renewable facility to date as a major milestone that will contribute to our commitment to become a net zero emissions company by 2050," said Repsol's chief operating officer, low carbon generation North America, Federico Toro. “Our growth ambition in this country is significant.” Repsol’s total renewable installed and under development capacity in Texas is 2091MW, including the facilities at Frye (637MW), Outpost (629MW) and Pinnington (825MW).

"Float on: Duke Energy completes first floating solar project in Florida Duke Energy’s first floating solar project in Florida is now in operation. The almost 1 MW floating solar array features more than 1,800 solar panels that float on top of 2 acres of water surface on an existing cooling pond at the company’s Hines Energy Complex in Bartow, Fla. The pilot project produces renewable energy while helping the Duke Energy better understand the capabilities of this innovative technology aimed at benefiting Florida customers and communities. The bifacial solar panels absorb light from both sides, which can produce 10%-20% more power than their single-sided counterparts. Crews assembled the module floating system on land in segments before securing it with anchors in the water. The project took approximately six months to construct and connect to the grid. The pilot is part of Duke Energy’s Vision Florida program, which is designed to test innovative projects such as green hydrogen, hydrogen produced from sources other than fossil fuels, and various battery energy storage technologies, to prepare the power grid for a cleaner energy future. Great news at the end of last week for the UK renewables industry… 1.35GW of utility scale solar approved in one day by the new sectary of state Ed Miliband. That’s almost 2/3rds of the amount of solar energy installed on rooftops and on the ground last year.
