Seasonal mismatch between PV energy production and consumption is a major issue for Nordic countries, but is it really that bad? According to the data from the Photovoltaic Geographical Information System (PVGIS), in Estonia the energy produced during the three Winter months is just 19% or the Summer production. Well, in fact our measurement results show even worse statistics - less than 5%! And the reason is … (surprise) snow! As people often do not bother cleaning the panels after each snowfall, they stay completely covered with snow for months, crippling the production to nothing but negligible values. Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) due to their typically vertical installation should not have this issue. Luckily, in our TalTech DC Innovation Hub, in addition to rooftop PV, we have a solar façade made of five 72-cell modules JKM400M-72H-V. We are on our way to investigate how both solutions will perform throughout the year. Would you clean your own solar panels from snow? ONCE AGAIN! 🎉 🏅 DAS SOLAR has developed the TOPCon 4.0 Plus high-efficiency solar cell, achieving an efficiency of 26.36% and an open-circuit voltage of 742 mV. This achievement surpasses DAS Solar's previous #efficiency record for TOPCon 4.0 large-area (334cm2) cells, established at 26.33% in September 2023. The open-circuit voltage has notably exceeded 740mV, reaching an impressive 742mV, breaking the previous record of 735mV set by DAS Solar in December 2023.
