Effective daylighting in #librarydesign is both an art and a science. When skillfully introduced, daylight creates an ambiance of quiet contemplation and visual comfort, linking the modern library user psychologically with the pre-technological past. For centuries, memorable library spaces have been characterized by volumes and surfaces illuminated with natural light, providing glare-free light in reading spaces. Recently, (20) Solatube Tubular Daylighting Devices (TDDs) were used in the construction of the modern, 11,700-square-foot Capitola Library in Capitola, California. To fit their flexible and contemporary design, Noll & Tam Architects had customized covers created for each Solatube TDD. The covers make the daylighting devices look like floating orbs against the greenery and create serene and vibrant spaces, fostering connection and engagement within the community. Discover how our team at Solatube can assist you in designing spaces that enhance the quality of life through innovative daylighting solutions. https://buff.ly/3Rr9VMB #SolatubeInternational #TubularDaylighting #ArchitectureDesign #BetterBuildingsforaBetterWorld #PublicLibrary Project Details: Product: (20) SolaMaster 750DS-O Architect: Noll & Tam Architects Solatube Distributor/Installer: Collier Building Specialties Developer/General Contractor: Otto Construction Location: Capitola, CA

PROJECTS OF PRESTIGE - with 'BASWA Acoustic AG' A very interesting solution for 80 Fenchurch Street Offices – for the 2-storey foyer! Can we re-collect how many times it must have happened, that a beautiful atrium or an entrance lobby is performing totally wrong for the acoustic quality? I am pretty sure that we have lost the count for that! Several marvelous structures simply lack the basic purpose of allowing people to talk and be heard clearly, and not being bothered with a very high reverb. You just cannot have a phone call there and are required to move out to finish your conversation. The architect and consultants for the project in reference here, opted for BASWA acoustic seamless design solutions, which precisely serve this purpose and contribute to better indoor environment. It’s a case in example, which demonstrates that if the end goal (purpose of the space) is well-defined, then the means to it are relatively easier to fetch. The BASWA Phon ceiling system was chosen for its smooth finish and high-performance acoustics. The result, was a comfortable space which was highly appreciated! https://lnkd.in/g5gQayVM #acousticsolutions #roomacoustics #sounddesign #soundproofing #BASWA #BASWAacoustic #officedesign #atriumdesign #ceilings #ceilingdesign #seamless #HealthyArchitecture #jointless #acousticdesign #acoustics

Soundscapes for the Soul: Crafting Emotive Spaces through Aural Architecture As landscape architects, we tend to focus primarily on the visual when designing outdoor spaces. Yet sound has an equally powerful ability to shape our experiences and evoke emotion. I'm intrigued by the concept of "aural architecture" - using sound and music to create immersive spaces that engage the senses. Could we design parks to "sound" relaxing? Shape public plazas to feel energising? Or craft gardens that inspire a sense of wonder? With some creative acoustical engineering, it's possible. For example, planting deciduous trees with rustling leaves or incorporating burbling water features can impart natural calm. Strategic placement of sound-reflecting surfaces can amplify or muffle noises. Integrating wind chimes, bells, or even subtly embedded speakers can infuse delight. The specifics may vary, but the aim is the same: to complement visual beauty with an audible ambience that impacts mood and feelings. Sound becomes almost tactile, giving physical form to the desired atmosphere. As landscape architects, we shape space. When we expand our techniques to the aural realm, the emotional power is immense. Our public places can soothe, inspire, and excite - transforming not just where people go, but how they feel when they get there. Let's design for all the senses. #soundscapes #acousticaldesign #sonicenvironements #soundengineering #landscapearchitecture

The #qualities of #space Space can be open and inviting, or it can be closed and claustrophobic. It can be expansive and overwhelming, or it can be intimate and cozy. The qualities of space can be manipulated to create a variety of different experiences. For example, a space can be designed to open out and direct attention to its frame and beyond. This creates a sense of connection to the outside world and makes the space feel larger than it actually is. Conversely, a space can be designed to fall away or seem to expand. This creates a sense of vastness and can be very disorienting. Spaces can also be designed to have their own sufficient, satisfying qualities. This means that the space is complete within itself and does not need anything else to be complete. For example, a Japanese garden is often designed to be a self-contained space that is both beautiful and serene. Spaces can also be designed to stimulate a prescribed emotional reaction. For example, a space can be designed to be stimulating and exciting, or it can be designed to be relaxing and calming. The emotional reaction that a space evokes will depend on the specific qualities of the space. The qualities of space are an important part of the architecture. By understanding the different qualities of space, architects can create spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

This stone meeting room is an example of reimagining what had been a dark, neglected room to create a transformative, light-bathed open space. The vaulted wood ceiling, washed with energy-efficient cove lighting, creates an expansive experience in spite of the modest size of the room. The glazed gables draw the eye to the big Texas Hill Country sky, inviting contemplation, inspiration and collaboration. In architecture, open space isn't just about physical dimensions—it's about the freedom it provides for creativity to soar and for minds to expand. And lighting isn't just about illumination—it's about setting the stage for moments of brilliance and enlightenment. The interplay between the rugged stone walls and the ethereal glow from above creates a harmonious balance. This space is a reminder of the value of looking at old buildings in a new light, and of the profound impact that thoughtful design can have on our experience. It's a testament to the importance of creating environments that inspire, uplift, and elevate. #LightingDesign #ArchitecturalInspiration #MeetingRoomGoals #DesignForCreativity #AdaptiveReuse

In the realm where technology and futurism intersect with the raw majesty of nature, this image captures the essence of modern ambition coexisting with timeless landscapes. At dusk, as the last embers of daylight fade behind the mountains, a monolithic skyscraper stands as a beacon of human innovation. This imposing tower, sleek with reflective surfaces, mirrors the hues of the twilight sky and the snowy mountain backdrop. The structure is solitary, rising with a seamless, almost digital perfection from a foundation that appears as both part of the surrounding topography and yet distinctly apart from it. Its cylindrical form pierces the heavens, glowing softly with lines of illuminated windows that hint at the life within. The building’s presence is at once harmonious and juxtaposing against the wild, untamed beauty of the valley it oversees. Snaking through the valley below are threads of golden light, the illuminated pathways of roads that carve through the green and earthen tones of the terrain. Vehicles traverse these arteries of civilization, their lights a moving dance that contrasts with the stillness of the natural world. The skyscraper is the epitome of human aspiration, a symbol of our reach for the skies, while the roads reflect our desire to explore and conquer even the most daunting of Earth’s wonders. Yet, there is a silent acknowledgment of the towering peaks around it, a bow to their ancient grandeur. This image speaks of a future where our urban dreams and nature’s sovereignty are woven together into a tapestry of the human experience, reflecting a world where progress dares to rise amid the echoes of the wild and eternal. #ذكاء_اصطناعي #Generative_Artificial_Intelligence #designer #architect #architectureDesign #architecture #midjourneyarchitecture #midjourneyartwork #تصميم #تصميم_معماري #design

Old buildings can be sustainable, too. Enhancing energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact is critical today, and historic structures often benefit the most from these upgrades. By carefully preserving their unique architectural features and cultural context, we make sure these buildings continue to serve as vital, vibrant community landmarks. Our decade-long renovation of the Missoula County Courthouse used LEED guidelines to enhance the structure's historic elements with modern functionality, proving that old walls can embrace new norms. Where history meets innovation, we lead the way. 📸: Lara Swimmer Photography #createimpact #design #leed #historicpreservation #sustainabledesign
