I have such a wide taste in music. Like seriously, if we've never talked music, we should. This live performance by Black Sabbath from 1970 is so amazing. Thanks to Greg Dohler for bringing it up in conversation over lunch today. Greg's a great photographer and friend, and it was great to commiserate about this awesome performance. What does this have to do with business? Black Sabbath was panned by the critics of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Rolling Stone said they were "Like Cream! But worse." But watch this film, and you'll see that from a performance point of view, they're amazing. They were operating on a different level and totally misunderstood by the prevailing opinions. Isn't that our dream as business owners? To press beyond, to be on the cutting edge of our industry? To innovate and grow? Final thought: if my dream as a business owner had a soundtrack, I'd definitely want Bill Ward playing the drums. Good gravy!

What music production always gave you chills? For me It's Pink Floyd The Final Cut The lyrics, and production really bring a tingle to your spine especially on “The Final Cut”. The production breathes with the story with the sensitive vocal beginning with piano. As the emotion grows the band comes in, French horns help it build throughout. “And if I show you my dark side will you still hold me tonight? And if I open my heart to you and show you my weak side what you do?” https://lnkd.in/gF5BPkyj What is it in the production that gives you chills? The words? An Instrument? The arrangement?

My take away from this post only means simple is simply powerful.
One of my favorite things to happen in the last week: 110,905 people showed up to watch George Strait stand in front of his microphone and sing his songs for two hours at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas. He didn’t dance, and he didn’t have a gaggle of dancers. He didn’t drop in from the sky, and he didn’t blast up from underground. He didn’t have costume changes. Heck he hardly even plays the guitar - typically he just holds it. He had a few lights, nothing spectacular, and most importantly no tracks, no lip sync, and no auto-tune. Just a bunch of old guys playing real instruments together as a band. In doing so they broke the record for the most-attended ticketed concert ever held in the United States. That record was previously owned by the Grateful Dead, who performed for a crowd of 107,019 paying fans at Raceway Park in New Jersey on Sept. 3, 1977. No, it wasn't Taylor Swift, or Beyonce, or even Garth Brooks. It was George Strait, just singing songs. Pretty cool.
