Borborygmi are sounds that result from peristalsis, the contraction and relaxation of muscles in the stomach and intestines, pushing contents further down the digestive tract. It can be a nonspecific occurrence or a result of an underlying issue, often accompanied by other symptoms like diarrhea, high fructose, and sorbitol consumption, celiac disease, or lactose intolerance. There is no specific diagnosis or treatment for borborygmi, but if a specific gastrointestinal disorder is suspected, a review of the medical history and a physical examination are often performed. . . . #health #medicine #medicalterminology #medical #healthcare #borborygmus #hcpcommunity #hcps

This backwash, known as acid reflux, can cause symptoms such as heartburn, regurgitation, and discomfort in the chest. Over time, GERD can lead to more serious health issues like esophagitis, esophageal strictures, or Barrett's esophagus. Factors contributing to GERD include obesity, smoking, certain medications, and dietary choices such as consuming spicy or fatty foods. Treatment often involves lifestyle changes, medications to reduce stomach acid, and in severe cases, surgery.
