Why Building Relationships with Students is Key to Their Success! Nurse educators, let's talk about something crucial: relationships in the classroom! Building connections with students isn't just a "nice-to-have"—it's essential for their learning outcomes! Here's why: 1. Boosted Engagement: Students who feel connected are more likely to participate and engage with the material. 2. Enhanced Motivation: A caring teacher inspires students to strive for their best! 3. Better Behavior: Respect and understanding lead to a more positive classroom atmosphere. 4. Emotional Support: Strong relationships help students navigate personal and academic challenges. 5. Personalized Learning: Knowing your students = tailored teaching strategies for success! 6. Trust and Safety: A secure environment encourages students to take intellectual risks. 7. Positive Experience: Good relationships make school a place they want to be! 8. Modeling Social Skills: Teachers who build strong bonds teach valuable life skills. In short, relationships are the heart of effective learning. Let's invest in our students, one connection at a time! ❤️🌟 #EducationMatters #StudentSuccess #TeachersRock #nurseeducator #nursing #nurses #nursingschool #nursesonlinkedin Feel free to share and spread the word about the power of relationships in education! 💬 What do you think? Inspired to promote modernization of healthcare through safe practices, quality patient care, and empowerment of front line care providers
Can I share with you about the amount of LIFE I experienced today? Texas Nurses Association was invited to participate in the Cruising through Careers event hosted by Workforce Solutions. Approximately 1,000 7th grade students from Georgetown ISD came to us in a very small room, 70 students at a time, to learn about our #pathway to #nursing We were surprised by the amount of engagement in our discussion. I shared publicly for the first time to a large group about my personal experience with #homelessness and #hunger as a child and my colleague Jamie Roney Hernandez shared about her military experience as a nurse. The last lesson we shared with them was about the universal sign of choking and about chest compressions. While we would never expect them to be proficient in #cpr we did expect them to see one tiny part of what we do. Let me tell you….THEY LOVED IT! It might have been my rendition of “Staying Alive” or “Star Wars War Drums” to help them understand the tempo to take with #compressions but they were completely interested and engaged. (It also might have been the bribe we made of candy) Here were just SOME of the questions 7th graders wanted to know about nursing: -Is being a nurse stressful? -What if they die? -What do you do if someone has AIDS? -What types of shifts and hours can you work? -How can I become a nurse? -How long does it take to become a nurse? -What is the difference between a doctor, doctor and a nurse doctor? The #futureofnursing is upon us and I am both excited and nervous. My friends, we still have work to do to make our profession whole again before these 7th graders join our profession as early as 2030! What are you doing RIGHT NOW to make our profession better or stronger? What are you working on to make our profession the most welcoming place for our #futurenurses ? I’m feeling full of life seeing the excitement of young minds navigate their own pathways and I hope you are too! #nursesonlinkedin

As a #nurse who left the bedside to pursue a career in #simulation #education, I personally feel like I've been part of the problem AND the #solution (leaning heavily on the latter I hope). What is really tough is that not only do we have terrible #nurse #turnover, but admissions and interest in joining the #nursing #profession are taking a dip now too! I've spoken with so many #faculty who are similarly #burningout because they don't have enough staff. Another article I read suggests that may be one of the reasons the admissions started to dip (willing students being turned away) but now the same reasons nurses are turning over (#burnout, #salary, #career) are also the reasons students aren't applying and faculty are leaving. There are so many ways #virtualreality can support our #nurses, #students and #faculty but it feels like there's something bigger underlying this long-standing issue. Will we ever be "out" of the #nursingcrisis?
